Student answer (Band 6.0)

In today's era, our environment is affected harshly due to overuse of resources. Even in most of the countries, people do not reuse or recycle their wastage so much as they could. It is the one of the most serious concern nowadays. I believe both the government and individuals should take actions on their levels to change this. In this essay, the reasons along with preventions to solve this are discussed.

To begin with, I believe the most important reason for this is lack of awareness and knowledge. People are not aware about the effects of not recycling their rubbish. They do not treat it as a serious environment concern. Adding to this, they also do not have enough resources to recycle their used materials. Also today's generation is attracted to new and lavish things. They do not want to use the old or recycled items. This trend of show-off has risen to a great extent.

Furthermore, it's an high time to take suitable actions to prevent the serious consequences. Government should provide knowledge and spread awareness to common people by arranging seminars or online sessions for them.

To epitomise, they can also provide

cashbacks to people on items like

plastic bottles and containers. This will

encourage them to recycle items. Goverment

can also reward the person who will

recycle most of the items each year. Morover,

people should also take the responsibility on

their levels as it will affect their future

generations. Instead of showing off, they should

reuse items which will also reduce their

expenses.

In conclusion, lack of awareness is the major

reason for this concern. Therefore, both

the government and people should go

hand in hand to avoid the serious

repercusions of this situation.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: explaining why people do not recycle as much as they could and suggesting measures to change this. The writer puts forward clear ideas, such as a lack of awareness, an absence of resources, and a cultural trend of consumerism and showing off. Solutions are also proposed, including government-led educational seminars, cashback schemes for plastic bottles, and annual rewards. While some ideas like the trend of show-off are slightly generalised, they are relevant and supported with explanations. The position is clear throughout, and the main tenets of the task are adequately covered, fitting well within the expectations of Band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response is arranged with a clear overall progression, using introductory, body, and concluding paragraphs. Cohesive devices are employed to connect ideas, such as 'To begin with', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion'. However, referencing and paragraphing show some mechanical faults and awkward formatting. For instance, the transition into the main body of solutions is slightly fragmented, and some paragraphs contain very short line breaks that detract from the smooth flow of the text. Overall, the logic is discernible, but the management of cohesion places this response securely at Band 6.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common lexical items such as 'repercusions' (misspelled), 'lavish', and 'cashbacks'. There are several instances of imprecise word choice and spelling errors, such as 'wastage' instead of 'waste', 'an high time' instead of 'high time', and 'Goverment'. However, these errors do not impede communication, and the writer manages to convey their ideas sufficiently to meet the criteria for Band 6.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures like conditional and relative clauses. There are several grammatical errors and awkward phrasing throughout the text, including 'affected harshly due to overuse', 'take actions on their levels', and 'person who will recycle most of the items'. Article errors are also present, such as 'is an high time'. Nonetheless, the meaning remains clear, and the errors only occasionally distract the reader rather than impeding overall comprehension, aligning with the Band 6.0 descriptor.
