Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, discussing reasons why people do not recycle as much as they could and suggesting solutions. A clear position is maintained throughout the essay. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. For example, the explanation regarding busy schedules is rather generalized ("everyone have their more workload related to various things"), and the examples provided, such as the social media mention, are simple and lack depth. While all parts of the task are addressed, the support remains at a basic level, aligning best with a Band 5.5 or 6.0 descriptor. Because the ideas are relevant and generally cover the prompts, the score of 6.0 is well-deserved for attempting both the causes and the solutions.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is divided into an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion, showing an overall attempt at organisation. However, the progression of ideas is frequently disrupted by mechanical and faulty cohesive devices. For instance, the use of transition markers such as "On the one hand" and "On the other hand" is grammatically flawed ("people are not recycle their rubbish due to busy schedule"). Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the paragraphing, while present, contains run-on sentences and comma splices that hinder smooth reading. This level of organisation and cohesion aligns closely with Band 5.0 descriptors, where information has some structure, but cohesive devices are frequently inaccurate or over-used.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, touching upon relevant topics like garbage, recycling, policy, and environment. However, there are frequent errors in word choice, form, and spelling throughout the text. Examples include "Nowdays", "eassy", "paragraphics", "numerious", "basic" (intended for basis), and "knowledage". Less common lexical items are attempted, such as "encouage" and "survey", but these are marred by inaccuracies. These errors occasionally cause strain for the reader, fitting the Band 5.0 profile where vocabulary is limited and noticeable errors in spelling and word formation occur.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, though complex structures are often faulty. There are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ("everyone have", "government make"), incorrect verb forms ("people are not recycle", "they can not only earn money but also spread knowledage"), and missing prepositions or articles. Punctuation errors, such as spaces before commas and full stops, are also pervasive. While the meaning can generally be extracted despite the numerous errors, the density of grammatical slips keeps the performance firmly at Band 5.0, where frequent errors in grammar cause difficulty for the reader.
