Student answer (Band 6.0)
In this contemporary world, garbage recycling is considered as a growing issue in various countries. I reckon that this predicament involves both the citizens and the government. This essay will elaborate the reasons and possible solutions to this menace.
One compelling reason is the awareness among individuals in countries such as, India. People do not consider waste management as an important part of daily lives. All the degradable , non-degradable and recyclable garbage is dumped in single dustbin which makes the task labor intensive and time-consuming for sorting the garbage. Another reason is lack of government's initiatives to prompt this menace. In the undeveloped countries, recycling the rubbish and preserving the environment is not given priority as there are numerous other sectors which requires to be endeavoured.
To tackle this problem, government needs to imply strict rules as implied in developed countries such as, Canada. There has to be rules regarding disposal of rubbish at all levels so that handling and recycling the useful material can be made possible. Fines should be imposed with zero tolerance policy which will automatically change individuals habits related to throwing all type of garbage together. Campaigns should be organized to educate the citizens about the issues related to recycling of garbage creating Distress.
To conclude, i believe that the administration and general public are collectively responsible for poor waste recycling . Hence, both has to work in collaboration to handle this evolving issue by changing practices and implementing strict regulations which will eventually lead to sustainable development.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both the reasons why people do not recycle as much as they could and providing practical solutions. A clear position is maintained throughout the essay. The ideas are relevant, such as the lack of individual awareness in countries like India and the absence of strict government initiatives in developing nations. However, some arguments remain slightly under-developed; for example, the mention of sectors requiring attention in developing countries is brief and could be expanded. Solutions like imposing fines and organizing campaigns are appropriately suggested and supported with examples such as Canada. This performance aligns well with the Band 6.0 descriptors, where all parts of the task are addressed, though some aspects are more fully developed than others.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, body paragraphs addressing reasons and solutions respectively, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate ideas. Cohesive devices are employed to link sentences and paragraphs, such as 'One compelling reason' and 'To tackle this problem'. However, there are some mechanical transitions and referencing issues, such as 'prompt this menace' and minor punctuation slip-ups before commas in places like 'degradable , non-degradable'. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the logical flow could be smoother and more sophisticated to reach higher bands. Overall, this satisfies the criteria for Band 6.0, featuring a coherent overall structure despite some faulty or mechanical cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items and subject-specific terms such as 'predicament', 'degradable', 'labor intensive', and 'sustainable development'. However, there are noticeable inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. For instance, the phrase 'prompt this menace' is unnatural, and 'imply strict rules' should be 'implement strict rules'. Furthermore, 'individuals habits' lacks an apostrophe. While these errors do not impede communication, they reflect the limitations typical of a Band 6.0 response, where vocabulary is adequate yet contains recurring lexical inaccuracies.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating relative clauses and conditional structures. There are several grammatical errors and punctuation flaws throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues such as 'there are numerous other sectors which requires to be endeavoured' instead of 'require', and 'both has to work' instead of 'both have to work'. Articles are also occasionally misused, as in 'individuals habits'. Despite these errors, the meaning remains clear and communication is rarely impeded. This fits the Band 6.0 profile, which exhibits a mix of structures alongside some grammatical errors that do not disrupt the reader's understanding.
