Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the task by discussing the reasons why people do not recycle as much as they could, such as a lack of awareness and busy lifestyles, and suggests solutions like placing bins closer and conducting awareness classes. However, the word count requirement of 250 words is not met, as the essay is only 233 words long. This results in under-developed ideas and limited support. For instance, the example about Japan is very brief and lacks elaboration. Because the minimum length requirement is not met, the Task Achievement score is negatively impacted, aligning best with a Band 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response has an identifiable structure with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is attempted, though formatting is sometimes unconventional. Cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'what is more', and 'firstly' are used to signal logical relationships, but their mechanics are frequently faulty due to punctuation and capitalization errors. Referencing is also sometimes unclear, such as in the phrase 'for going on work they aviod to use the recycle bin'. There is a lack of smooth progression between sentences, keeping the coherence at a Band 5.0 level.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student attempts to use some less common vocabulary, such as 'predominant', 'myriad', and 'reiterate', but these are accompanied by frequent spelling and word-choice errors, including 'coutaries' for countries, 'awereness' for awareness, 'distbin' for dustbin, and 'knowlege' for knowledge. Collocations are occasionally unnatural, such as 'giving awareness classes'. While the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey basic meaning, the high frequency of spelling and lexical errors restricts the score to a Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The writing displays a very limited range of structures, with frequent basic grammatical and punctuation errors. Sentences often lack proper capitalization and punctuation boundaries, such as starting sentences with lowercase letters in the middle of text. There are numerous grammatical inaccuracies, including 'cluster of reson are there', 'there busy lifestyle', and 'student start to learn'. Complex sentence attempts are frequently faulty and obscure meaning. Because errors are persistent and cause difficulty for the reader throughout the text, the grammar is awarded a Band 4.5.
