Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, exploring reasons why people fail to recycle and suggesting solutions like government awareness programs and financial penalties. However, the length requirement of 250 words is not met, as the essay contains 241 words. This slight under-length restriction impacts the depth of idea development, leading to a Band 5.5 score. While the arguments are relevant, they remain somewhat underdeveloped and repetitive, such as mentioning lack of time multiple times without distinct supporting details. To reach a higher band, the student must ensure the word count exceeds the minimum and fully extend each generated idea with specific examples.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is divided into logical paragraphs with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for reasons and solutions, and a brief conclusion. However, the progression of ideas is sometimes hindered by mechanical and repetitive cohesive devices, such as starting multiple sentences with 'To elaborate this' and 'To explain this'. Additionally, referencing is occasionally unclear, as seen in phrases like 'how recycle help to the earth. Therefore, They can not do as much as they could' where the pronoun antecedent is ambiguous. Paragraphing is present and generally appropriate, but the overall logical flow and management of cohesive ties align most closely with Band 5.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The lexical resource is limited and basic, with frequent spelling mistakes and inaccurate word forms, such as 'solutaion', 'formost', 'lacke', 'awarness', 'pollutione', 'impotent', and 'stric'. The vocabulary is repetitive, relying on words like 'recycle', 'rubbish', and 'time'. While the student attempts less common vocabulary, errors in word choice and spelling—such as 'take some charge' instead of 'impose fines'—impede communication slightly and demonstrate characteristics typical of a Band 5.0 response. To improve, the student should focus on accurate spelling, broader lexical variety, and correct collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying mostly on simple sentences and faulty attempts at complex clauses. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues and missing auxiliary verbs, such as 'nowadays life become so fast because of this people do not have enough time' and 'if they are not recycle their waste'. Punctuation is also problematic in places, with incorrect capitalization and run-on structures. These persistent errors frequently cause difficulty for the reader, placing the grammar performance firmly at Band 5.0.
