Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: why people recycle less than they could, and what can be done to change this situation. The student presents clear ideas regarding busy modern lifestyles and a lack of awareness or resources. These ideas are extended with examples, such as buying ready-made plastic bags rather than creating items from excess clothes. However, some arguments lack complete clarity and depth, and the position could be more fully developed to reach higher bands. Overall, the prompt is adequately addressed, fitting the criteria for Band 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement and follows a logical four-paragraph structure comprising an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is utilised appropriately to separate ideas. However, cohesion is at times faulty and mechanical, with instances of awkward referencing or transitional phrases, such as starting a sentence with 'These could be done by' or 'These can be solved'. Logical progression is present, but the cohesive devices are occasionally inadequate or slightly unnatural, placing this response firmly in the Band 6.0 category.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'comtemperory era', 'governmental interventions', and 'environment-friendly'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors, including 'donot', 'unware', 'comtemperory', 'polathene', 'comapigns', and 'aware' used as a verb. While these errors do not impede overall communication, they restrict the lexical score to a Band 5.5, as accuracy in less common lexis is insufficient for a Band 6.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over clause subordination. However, there is a recurring presence of grammatical errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'it is difficult to for them', 'there i a portion', 'Some individuals prefers', and sentence fragments like 'To conclude, though the process of recycling needs time and energy. It provides...'. Punctuation and article usage also show frequent minor flaws. These errors occasionally cause slight strain for the reader, aligning the grammar with a Band 5.5 score.
