Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, exploring why people fail to recycle and suggesting solutions like awareness programmes and building recycling infrastructure. However, the word count requirement is not met, coming in at 216 words instead of the minimum 250, which negatively impacts task achievement. Furthermore, the ideas are often underdeveloped and lack sufficient depth. For instance, the example provided about a pencil and sharpener waste is confusing and unclear. While the student attempts to present a position and ideas, the limited development, lack of clear examples, and failure to reach the minimum length keep this criterion at Band 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The text shows an attempt at logical organisation, using basic cohesive phrases such as On the one hand, On the another hand, and Therefore. However, paragraphing and referencing are often faulty. The division of paragraphs is somewhat disjointed, and mechanical transitions are overused or inaccurate (e.g., On the another hand). Referencing is sometimes unclear, making the progression of ideas difficult to follow in places. The overall arrangement lacks the smooth flow and flexibility required for higher bands, placing it firmly at Band 5.0.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The student uses a limited but minimally adequate range of vocabulary for the task, including terms like rubbish, awareness programmes, and infrastructure. However, there are noticeable word-choice and spelling errors throughout the text, such as beacuse instead of because, mych instead of much, rular instead of rural, and potry instead of pottery. Collocations are occasionally unnatural (e.g., used the garbage and used in the gardening). These lexical limitations and errors cause some difficulty for the reader, which aligns with the Band 5 descriptor.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0
The writing displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, with frequent errors in both simple and complex sentences. There are numerous punctuation and capitalization issues, as well as problems with subject-verb agreement and article usage (e.g., Government should create awareness programmes;Reels and videos about recycling the rubbish which is beneficial for the human beings). Errors are frequent and often cause difficulty for the reader in understanding the intended meaning. This performance is consistent with the Band 4.0 descriptor.
