Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: why people do not recycle as much as they could, and what can be done to change this. The student mentions points such as a lack of empty land, inadequate waste management infrastructure, and a lack of public knowledge. However, the ideas are somewhat under-developed and lack specific supporting examples from personal experience or wider knowledge. The stance is presented, though expression is often unclear, such as stating that governments 'need discover some projects where they can produce electricity after recycling the waste materials.' Despite the limited depth of development and occasional lack of clarity, all parts of the prompt receive attention, placing this response at Band 5.0 according to the task achievement descriptors.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response exhibits basic organisation with some transitional attempts such as 'first of all', 'Secondly', 'further more', and 'In the conclusion'. However, paragraphing is poorly handled; the entire body of the text is essentially lumped together with inadequate separation of ideas, and indentation/spacing conventions are irregular. Cohesive devices are often inaccurate or mechanical, and referencing is frequently unclear, as seen in sentences like 'either throghing rubbish in open area gave birth to my diseases.' There is a lack of clear overall progression, which limits the score for this criterion. These features align closely with the Band 5.0 descriptors for coherence and cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student uses a limited and repetitive vocabulary with frequent errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'repidly' for rapidly, 'matrials' for materials, 'through' instead of throw, and 'throghing' instead of throwing. There is also awkward collocation, such as 'municipalities society need to put garbage bin every where'. While the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey the basic topic of waste management and recycling, noticeable lexical errors cause some difficulty for the reader throughout the text. This performance reflects the Band 5.0 descriptor profile, where a limited range and frequent errors are apparent.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The grammatical range is limited, featuring predominantly simple sentences alongside clumsy attempts at complex structures that are often faulty. There are persistent errors in basic grammar, including subject-verb agreement issues like 'rubbish become', missing articles ('government need discover'), and incorrect preposition use ('in all over the world'). Punctuation and capitalization are also problematic, with sentences starting with lowercase letters ('first of all', 'secondly'). These frequent errors can cause strain and confusion for the reader, fitting the Band 5.0 descriptors where frequent grammatical errors are present and control is weak.
