Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, pollution is affecting our environment a lot. To deal with this problem recycable material is being used so that we can save our environment. Despite of this some people does not pay much attention and recycle their gargabe. I firmly believe that, such individuals act as a barrier towards cleanliness in our society.

One of the primary reason is that people are not much educated regarding stuff which can be reused. As per them everything left over is garbage. Additionally, they don't know what type of garbage should be thrown in blue or green bins which results increase in the qunatity of garbage. Moreover, lack of responsibility is also a big reason. People believe that it is not their job to take care of the environment. They don't care if their act is making our surroundings harmful. Although, government has imposed fines on wrong garbage disposal but still these people are careless.

However, to fix this first thing that should be done is to raise awareness in the public regarding the recycleable materials. Government should make advertisements to educate those who have limited information. Another point worth considering that is heavy fines should be collected from those who are caught violating government policies. Furthermore, we should decrease the use of such stuff which are not reuseable. For example, In India there is a state named Himachal Pradesh where the use of plastic bags are banned by the government. As a result, everyone carry paper bags or handmade bags of cloth to carry their belongings.

In conclusion, everyone should fulfill their part and make earth a better and clean place to live. Authorities should also take strict measures so that everyone recycle as much as rubbish they can.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing the reasons why people do not recycle as much as they could and offering actionable solutions. The position is clear throughout, starting with your stance on individual responsibility. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven, characteristic of this level. While some points, such as the example of Himachal Pradesh, are clearly extended, other ideas remain slightly under-developed or general, such as the brief mention of the lack of responsibility. To reach the next level, you need to ensure that every main idea is fully explained with deeper elaboration and extended examples rather than moving quickly to the next point.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

Your essay demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical structure divided into appropriate paragraphs for introduction, causes, solutions, and conclusion. You make use of standard cohesive devices and transition signals such as 'Additionally', 'Moreover', and 'However' to connect your ideas. However, the cohesion can occasionally feel mechanical, and referencing is not always completely smooth, as seen with transitions like 'Another point worth considering that is heavy fines'. To improve further, you should aim for a more seamless and flexible flow of ideas, ensuring that referencing and substitution link sentences together naturally without relying on formulaic connectors.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'disposal', 'violating', and 'authorities'. However, there are noticeable vocabulary and spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'recycable' instead of recyclable, 'gargabe' instead of garbage, and 'reuseable' instead of reusable. Word choice is also occasionally awkward, such as 'stuff which can be reused' or 'qunatity'. These lexical inaccuracies and spelling slips do not severely impede communication, but they prevent you from achieving a higher score. To improve, you should focus on precision in word choice, correct spelling, and natural collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional structures and relative clauses. However, there are several grammatical errors and punctuation issues scattered throughout the essay. Examples include subject-verb agreement errors like 'some people does not pay' and 'the use of plastic bags are banned', missing articles such as 'in public', and preposition errors like 'Despite of this'. Although these errors occur, your meaning is generally still clear and they rarely impede communication. To move higher, you need to produce a higher proportion of error-free complex sentences and demonstrate tighter control over grammatical rules, pluralisation, and prepositions.
