Student answer (Band 6.5)
Irrefutably, recyling plays an important role in protecting the environment. However, many people still do not recycle their products as much as they should. This essay will discuss the main reasons for this problem and suggest some possible solutions.
There are several reasons why people fail to recycle their rubbish. Firstly, a lack of awareness is a major factor. Many individuals do not understand the harmful effects of sending recyclable materials to landfills, where they contribute to environmental pollution. Secondly, recycling facilities are not easily accessible in some areas. For example, people may have to travel a considerable distance to find suitable recycling centres, which discourages them from separating their waste. In addition, some people consider recycling time-consuming and inconvenient, particularly when they have busy schedules.
Several measures can be taken to address this issue. One effective solution is for government to provide more recyling bins in residential areas, schools, shopping centres and public places. This would make recycle process more convienent. Also government have to educate the public through awareness campaigns. Schools and media organisation could explain how recyling helps conserve natural resources and reduce pollution. Furthermore, government could introduce financial incentives, such as discounts or rewards for households that recycle regularly. Fines could also be imposed on individuals or businesses that make mistakes wuth waste managment systems.
In conclusion, people recycle less than they could mainly because of limited awareneass, inconvenient facilties and a lack of motivation. Government can improve this situation by eduating the people, spread awareness and add more facilites.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response addresses both parts of the question: it identifies reasons such as limited awareness, inaccessible facilities and inconvenience, then proposes bins, public education and incentives or fines. The opening also establishes a clear focus, and the examples of recycling centres and public campaigns are relevant. This meets the task well overall, but the development is uneven: the reasons are explained more fully than some solutions, and the final suggestion about fines is not clearly connected to the stated problem. The conclusion repeats the main points rather than drawing them together. To strengthen the response, explain how a particular measure would change people’s behaviour and support it with a specific example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, a paragraph on causes, a paragraph on solutions and a conclusion. Sequencing is easy to follow, and signposts such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” “In addition” and “In conclusion” help guide the reader. However, the linking is somewhat mechanical, and the solutions paragraph contains several ideas in quick succession without enough explanation of how they relate. The conclusion’s list—“educating the people, spread awareness and add more facilities”—also repeats earlier points rather than synthesising them. Use a wider range of referencing and transitions, and group related measures more clearly so that progression feels less like a list.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The response uses an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “recyclable materials,” “landfills,” “environmental pollution,” “financial incentives” and “conserve natural resources.” These choices make the main ideas clear, and some less common terms are appropriate to the subject. However, spelling errors such as “recyling,” “convienent,” “awareness” misspelled as “awareneass,” and “managment” reduce accuracy. There are also awkward or imprecise combinations, including “make mistakes with waste management systems” and “make recycle process more convenient.” Aim for accurate spelling and more natural collocations, such as “dispose of waste incorrectly” and “make the recycling process more convenient.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
There is a useful mix of simple and complex sentence forms, and several sentences are controlled well, such as “Many individuals do not understand the harmful effects of sending recyclable materials to landfills, where they contribute to environmental pollution.” The use of subordinate clauses and examples supports clear communication. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly in the solutions paragraph: “government have to educate” has subject–verb disagreement, while “government to provide” needs an article or plural subject. “This would make recycle process…” also lacks a grammatically formed noun phrase. These errors do not usually obscure meaning, but more consistent control of articles, agreement and sentence construction would improve accuracy.
