Student answer (Band 6.5)

It has been observed that the general populace of many countries do not recycle their waste. Experts have listed multiple reasons behind this behaviour including lack of awareness and infrastructure. Therefore, a holistic approach has to adopted by authorities to raise awareness and improve the infratstructure. This essay will examine these factors in detail.

Firstly, people in many countries do not realise the detrimental impacts on environment for non recycling of many hazardeous items. The pulic in such countries is struggling with bigger issues, such as poverty, peace and social rights, and they do not consider recycling as their priority. It is usually considered the sole responsibility of governments to recycle in such countries. Secondly, lack of infratstructure plays a vital role that stimulate this behaviour among society. In general, many communities lack properly labelled dust bins or designated landfill. Consequently, individuals never know the standard procedures to dump their waste according to waste nature, such as bio, plastic and paper waste.

There are multiple measures that can be taken to curb this general attitude towards recycling. Awareness campaigns can significantly help individuals to know their responsibility towards environment. These campaigns can illustrate how individual actions taken by masses can contribute a major role in curbing the pollution. Authorities can raise such campaigns through social media and influencials to whome people usually love and watch. For instance, Indian government lauched a massive campaign, named sawach Barrat, a couple of years ago to educate general public about the importance of cleaning by hiring bollywood actors to demonstrate this. Furthermore, investment in infrastructure is also critical to by local community centres to establish an environment of recycling. All public places and community centres should be provided with properly labelled rubish containers and standard instructions should be placed along with these containers.

On balance, while general awareness and peoper infrastructure is key to educate people about the recycling, more legislative work should also be taken by authorities. General laws to promote green habbits and curb the use of non reyclabe packaging should be enacted. For instance, UAE government has placed a price for consumers to pay for plastic bags that are non recycables.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The response addresses both questions: it identifies limited awareness and inadequate recycling facilities as reasons, then proposes campaigns, better-labelled containers and legislation. Your position is clear, and the examples of India’s cleanliness campaign and charges for plastic bags in the UAE help make the proposed measures concrete. This fits a response that covers the task and supports its main ideas. Some points, however, are asserted rather than fully explained. For example, the claim that people prioritise poverty, peace and social rights could be linked more explicitly to how this reduces recycling, and the infrastructure proposal would benefit from explaining how collection and processing would work. Develop these connections and qualify broad claims to make the reasoning more consistently persuasive.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The essay has a clear overall progression: the introduction previews the causes, the first body paragraph explains them, the next presents solutions, and the conclusion adds a legislative measure. Paragraphing is appropriate, and signposts such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” “Furthermore” and “On balance” help readers follow the argument. The links are generally clear, although the repeated use of explicit sequencing words can make the flow somewhat formulaic. The conclusion also introduces legislation as an additional solution rather than drawing together the measures already discussed; integrating this point into the solutions paragraph would create a more balanced progression. Use a wider range of referencing and transitions, and make the relationship between each cause and its corresponding remedy more explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “detrimental impacts,” “designated landfill,” “awareness campaigns,” “legislative work” and “non-recyclable packaging.” These choices communicate the subject clearly and show attempts to use less common language. However, spelling and word-choice errors recur, including “infratstructure,” “hazardeous,” “influencials,” “rubish” and “recycables.” Some collocations are also awkward: “contribute a major role” and “an environment of recycling” do not sound natural in context. These issues do not prevent understanding, but they limit precision and control. Proofread carefully and learn common word partnerships, such as “play a major role” and “promote a culture of recycling,” so your vocabulary sounds more natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The response includes a mix of simple and complex structures, such as the sentence beginning “while general awareness…” and the explanation introduced by “Consequently.” Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors occur. In the introduction, “has to adopted” is missing “be”; “the general populace … do not” has a subject–verb agreement problem; and “impacts on environment” needs an article. There are also errors in sentence construction, as in “investment … is also critical to by local community centres,” where the relationship between the investment and the action is unclear. Review agreement, articles and passive forms, and check that each sentence has a complete, logically connected structure. Greater accuracy across these patterns would strengthen the range you already attempt.
