Student answer (Band 6.0)

Garbage recycling is one of the major issues in many developing countries. I strongly believe that the most important concern seems to be the public awareness about recycling different types of waste and government corruption at administrative facilities. To completely wipe out this environmental problem we need better solutions which I will be discussing it below.

First and foremost reason appears to be an education of basic fundamentals of recycling garbage and complications of dumping hazardous materials. Plasitic dumping anywhere along side the road, putting chemicals in the lakes; it has broad environmental consequences than it appears to be. For instance, in India, religious people use the rivers to throw flowers and other plastic materials which makes water more polluted. By practicing this method for years, they have polluted most of their rivers.

This can be catastrophic to the life underneath the water also.

Secondly, the government gives huge grants to local bodies to provide safe and clean environment for their own people. For example, they advertise and educate communities to use garbage bins and separate them according their materials. However, despite this efforts local authorities in developing countries can not curb this problem effortlessly. Because, the funds are always not enough to make a change. In other words grants are being mis-used by authorities.

Last but not least, major problems like this can not be addressed from only one side acting. Every citizen should be aware of the consequences. In addition to this, hefty fines are imposed to offenders so that they fear the law and order in the country. Recently, in Albarta, Canada, the government has imposed up to $100,00,000 fines and jail time to convicted criminals who dump the garage in lakes. Definitely,if, aforementioned laws are enforced then we can curb this problem from their roots.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both parts of the question: limited awareness is presented as a reason, and education, better use of public funds, and penalties are offered as responses. The examples about river pollution in India and fines in Canada help make the discussion relevant, and your view that citizens and authorities both have a role is apparent. This meets the task well overall, but the explanation of why recycling is limited is less fully developed than the proposed actions. In particular, government corruption is introduced as a major cause, yet the paragraph mainly describes grants and enforcement rather than showing clearly how misuse of funds reduces recycling. Develop this cause-and-effect link and explain more precisely how the suggested measures would increase recycling to strengthen the response further.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, separate body paragraphs, and a concluding recommendation. Sequencing phrases such as “First and foremost,” “Secondly,” and “Last but not least” help signal the stages of your argument. However, progression is not consistently clear: the second body paragraph shifts from government grants and public education to insufficient funds and then corruption, without fully connecting these points. Some linking is also mechanical, and “This can be catastrophic…” is separated from the example it refers to. Use clearer topic sentences and make each paragraph develop one central point in a logical sequence. Check references such as “this efforts” and “this problem” so readers can identify exactly what they refer to.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “hazardous materials,” “environmental consequences,” “local authorities,” and “imposed fines.” These choices show an effort to discuss the issue beyond basic terms. However, several inaccurate or unnatural expressions make the wording less precise, such as “wipe out this environmental problem,” “education of basic fundamentals,” and “fear the law and order.” There are also spelling errors, including “Plasitic” and “garage” where the context indicates rubbish. Some phrases are repeated, particularly “problem” and “government.” Aim for accurate collocations and use specific terms such as recycling facilities, waste separation, and enforcement. This would make your vocabulary more natural and help communicate your ideas with less effort from the reader.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a conditional structure in “if … laws are enforced then we can curb this problem.” The main ideas are generally understandable, but errors in sentence construction, agreement, articles, and punctuation are noticeable and sometimes make relationships between ideas unclear. For example, “To completely wipe out … solutions which I will be discussing it below” contains an unnecessary pronoun and an awkward clause structure; “despite this efforts” has a determiner-agreement error; and “Because, the funds…” is an incomplete sentence. There are also comma and spacing problems, particularly in the final sentence. Practise building complete sentences around one main clause, then check articles, agreement, and punctuation when editing.
