Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is seen that in many countries, people are not interested to recycle their trash as mush as they create. There are a substantial number of individuals who does not find it necessay to recyle their waste. This essay will analyze the reasons of not recycling the rubbish and what measures should we take to change this.

There are several underlying reasons for not recycling the waste. To begin with, they do not have proper recycling systems or there are very few or no recycling points in their coutries. Furthermore, the lack of rules and regulations that may bound individuals to recycle their waste. For instance, in UAE, there are heavy fines if people fail to recycle their rubbish. Due to which residents are bound to recycle their rubbish or they have to pay penalties. Moreover, the failure of a waste collecting system. To illustrate, in Pakistan, Muncipality do not take this issue seriously; in addition, the department does not compel their employees to collect waste on time. As a result, the country is full of waste dumping points and people have to bear unpleasent odour.

It is not just government's responsibility but citizens are also equally responsible to keep their country clean. Schools must teach children about cleanliness and its benefits. The government keeps the check and balance on waste collection. Furthermore, individuals must spread awareness about the benefits of clean enviroment and importance of healthy habits. They can arrange seminars and start a campain, whether a door to door compain or on social media. Media can arrange the talk on recycling the rubbish by inviting the persons related to recycling department, who can spread awareness among the people of the society.

From my perspective, everyone should play his role to keep the country clean. If a person is fail to fulfill his duty as a member of society he must held accountable. We all must know the benefits of a clean and healthy environment.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response addresses both questions and maintains a clear view that governments and citizens share responsibility. It gives relevant reasons, including limited recycling facilities, weak enforcement and ineffective waste collection, and proposes education, monitoring and public-awareness campaigns. The UAE and Pakistan examples help make the discussion concrete. However, some points are asserted rather than fully explained: for example, the UAE fine example illustrates enforcement but does not clearly show how this addresses the lack of recycling, and the Pakistan example could explain more directly how poor collection discourages residents from sorting waste. Developing the cause-and-effect links and explaining how each proposed measure would change behaviour would make the response more complete and persuasive.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph on causes, a paragraph on solutions and a concluding position. Sequencing phrases such as “To begin with,” “Furthermore” and “Moreover” help signal the discussion, and the examples are placed alongside relevant points. At times, however, the linking feels mechanical, and some connections are unclear. “Due to which residents are bound to recycle” is not smoothly attached to the preceding sentence, while “Moreover, the failure of a waste collecting system” is a fragment rather than a complete continuation. The solutions paragraph also moves quickly from schools to government oversight, individuals and media. Use fewer formulaic transitions and make the relationship between each idea explicit to improve progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The response uses a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “recycling systems,” “rules and regulations,” “penalties,” “waste collection” and “spread awareness.” These choices make the subject clear, and phrases such as “underlying reasons” show an attempt to use more formal language. However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable, including “mush,” “necessay,” “recyle,” “coutries” and “unpleasent.” Some collocations are also awkward, such as “keep the check and balance” and “arrange the talk.” Repeated use of “rubbish,” “waste” and “clean” limits flexibility. Proofread carefully and build a bank of natural topic phrases, such as “provide accessible recycling facilities” and “raise public awareness.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

There is an attempt to use both simple and more complex structures, including conditional language (“if people fail to recycle”) and clauses explaining results (“As a result, the country is full of waste dumping points”). The main ideas remain understandable, but errors in agreement, verb forms and sentence construction occur across the response. For example, “individuals who does not find” should use a plural verb, and “If a person is fail” has an incorrect verb pattern. “He must held accountable” also needs a passive construction with “be.” In addition, “Moreover, the failure of a waste collecting system” is an incomplete sentence. Practise checking subject–verb agreement and complete clauses, and revise each sentence for a correct verb form before adding more complex structures.
