Student answer (Band 6.0)

Many people around the world do not recycle their waste proberly, which raise the harmful consequences on the environment. This behavior could be related to the lack of public awarness about the importance of recycling. This issue could be addressed with more effortes from both government and individuals.

One major reason why people do not recyle their rubbish as much as they could is the lack of knowledge about the harmful impact of waste on our earth. Individuals do not realize that they should seperate their waste. To illustrate, plastics is not biodegradeable and should not be thrown in the landfills as its micro parts harm the micro-organisms, therefore, raising the public awarness about the harmful impacts of plastic on life and earth could encourage people to recycle to save the planet.

Changing the fact that people do not recycle could be changed by governments efforts. Governments beside raising the public awarness could organize programmes and ways to organize and facilitate the recycling process, such as providing categorized waste bins in an affordable price so people can seperate their waste with ease. also encourage people to use recycleable materials and avoid using plastic. and encourage people to dispose of plastic in a proper way, to cite an example, Germany government site a machine in every hypermarket where people could put their plastic bottles and bags in exchange of coins. This initiaitve encourage many people to dispose of their plastics throughout the machine and raise people's awarness about the importance of recycling.

In conclusion, recycling is an important approach for our lives and planet and people should try harder to recycle. Moreover, governments should do more efforts to encourage recycling.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response addresses both questions: it identifies limited public knowledge as a reason for low recycling and proposes government education, accessible sorting bins, and incentives. The Germany bottle-return example gives the solution section useful support, and the conclusion restates the main position. Some ideas, however, are developed more fully than others. The explanation of why people lack knowledge is brief, while the discussion of government action combines several proposals without explaining how education or reusable materials would change behaviour. The example focuses on returning bottles for coins rather than showing the broader effect on recycling. To strengthen the response, explain the causes more precisely and extend each proposed measure with a clear link to its likely impact.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph on causes, a paragraph on solutions, and a conclusion. The progression from the problem to possible action is easy to follow, and phrases such as “To illustrate” and “In conclusion” help signal relationships. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or unclear. The solutions paragraph begins with the repetitive construction “Changing the fact … could be changed,” then strings together proposals with sentence fragments beginning “also encourage” and “and encourage.” The long sentence about plastic, landfills, and micro-organisms also packs several links into one sentence. Use clearer topic sentences, connect each proposal to its explanation, and vary linking devices so the organisation feels more controlled.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The response uses relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “harmful impact,” “biodegradable,” “categorized waste bins,” and “dispose of plastic.” These choices show an attempt to discuss environmental issues beyond very basic terms. However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable and sometimes distract the reader: “proberly,” “awarness,” “recyle,” “seperate,” and “initiaitve” recur or appear in key points. Some expressions are also unnatural, such as “raise the harmful consequences,” “in an affordable price,” and “site a machine.” Aim for accurate spelling and natural collocations, and avoid repeating “awareness” and “encourage” by using suitable alternatives. More precise vocabulary would make the argument clearer and more fluent.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

There is an attempt to use both simple and complex structures, including a relative clause in “plastics is not biodegradable” and a conditional-style proposal with “could encourage people to recycle.” Meaning is generally recoverable, but errors in agreement, sentence construction, and punctuation occur across the response. For example, “which raise” does not agree with the singular idea “behavior,” and “plastics is” has a subject–verb agreement problem. The solutions paragraph contains fragments (“also encourage people” and “and encourage people”) rather than complete sentences, while the opening of that paragraph repeats “changed” in an awkward structure. Practise checking agreement and ensure each sentence has a complete main clause; divide long sentences where several ideas are joined.
