Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5

You identify relevant concerns, including open dumping, pollution, unpleasant smells, health problems and the export of waste, so the response is connected to the topic. However, the task asks both why people do not recycle enough and what could be done to change this. You mainly describe consequences and mention that some countries recycle or import waste; you do not clearly explain why individuals fail to recycle or propose practical solutions. The ideas are also very briefly stated, with no supporting example or developed explanation. The response is substantially below the required 250 words, which limits how fully you can address the question. Develop both causes and solutions, and support each with a specific explanation or example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

There is a basic attempt to move from waste disposal to its consequences, using links such as “for that,” “because of that” and “since.” This gives the reader some sense of how the points relate. However, the response is one short, unbroken paragraph, and the progression is difficult to follow: the shift from open dumping to countries importing waste is not explained, and the final “even” leaves the text unfinished. Some links are used inaccurately or do not clearly show the relationship between ideas. Organise the answer into paragraphs for causes and solutions, then use clear topic sentences and linking expressions to show how each point develops.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “recycle,” “garbage,” “dumping,” “pollution” and “environment,” which helps communicate the general subject. There are also attempts at more descriptive phrases such as “huge mountains” and “bad smell.” However, the range is limited and several spelling errors make the writing less clear, including “polution,” “recycleing,” “countires” and “envoirement.” Some expressions are also unnatural or imprecise, such as “waste material in an open yards” and “big headache for them.” Build a wider set of accurate terms for causes and solutions, and check spelling and collocations. For example, “open yards” could be “open dumpsites,” and “big headache” could be “serious challenge.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You communicate several basic ideas through simple clauses, for example, “that waste become a huge mountains” and “these things invites to pollution and bad smell.” However, sentence structures are mostly simple, and errors in agreement, articles, verb forms and sentence boundaries occur frequently enough to make parts difficult to read. Examples include “most of countries they dont have,” “the dumping their rubbish,” and “that waste become”; the final “even” is also an incomplete sentence. Try building accurate subject–verb–object sentences first, then add a few controlled complex sentences using “because,” “which” or “as a result.” Check singular and plural forms, articles, and punctuation when editing.
