Student answer (Band 6.0)
Nowadays, in several countries, waste is not recycled properly. There are numerous reasons for it. But it has led to various negative consequences, including severe plastic contamination of marine bodies, soil and even of food.Which can lead to numerous problems for a community including health problems and economic burden.
There are several reasons for this improper waste disposal. However two most significant, in my opinion, are lack of proper channels for waste disposal and scarcity of the public awarness about proper methods of waste disposal. For instance, in a third world country like Pakistan, there is no proper equipment or budget allocated for waste handling and processing. There is lack of proper machinery, which is essential for waste management.Other major cause is lack eduaction about waste handling, for example, people are not trained about how to dispose off plastic. Usually, plastic waste is mixed with other types of waste, which creates further hurdles in plastic recycling.
There are several easy solutions, in my opinion, which can be implied easily.Firstly, government should allocate a proper yearly budget for recycling equipment and labour. Eventually, it can provide significant financial gain plus employment oppertunities for the public.Furthermore, people should be educated about methods of waste handling. There should be a separate dustbin in every household for segregation of plastic waste.Additionally, some reward should given on return of a certain quantity of plastic.
In conclusion, plastic dispsal is ineffective in many parts of world due to several reasons, due to lack of proper equipment, budget and education. This can be solved easily with proper budget allocation for waste handling equipment and education. Ultimately, it could provide several benefits in longer run and prevent various problems due to plastic pollution or contamination.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response addresses both questions: it identifies inadequate waste-processing facilities and limited public awareness as causes, then proposes government funding, education, household sorting and rewards. The Pakistan example makes the infrastructure point more concrete, and the position that these problems can be addressed is clear. This meets the task well overall, but some ideas are less fully developed than others. For example, the reward scheme is mentioned without explaining how it would work or why it would change behaviour, and the proposed education measures are not illustrated with a specific example. The opening also focuses on harmful consequences, which is relevant context but does not directly explain why recycling rates are low. Develop the causes and solutions with clearer explanations and examples.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph on causes, one on solutions and a conclusion. The progression from inadequate facilities and awareness to practical remedies is easy to follow, and signposts such as “Firstly” and “Furthermore” help guide the reader. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical, with repeated openings such as “There are several reasons” and “There are several… solutions.” Some links between ideas are also abrupt: the discussion of pollution and its consequences in the introduction is not clearly connected to the causes that follow. Punctuation and spacing around sentence boundaries occasionally make the flow less smooth. Use more varied transitions and make the relationship between each claim and its explanation explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for discussing recycling and includes relevant terms such as “waste handling,” “segregation,” “recycling equipment” and “plastic pollution.” The writer also attempts more specific language, for example “financial gain” and “employment opportunities,” and the intended meaning is generally clear. However, several word-choice and spelling errors reduce precision, including “public awarness,” “eduaction,” “oppertunities” and “plastic dispsal.” Some expressions are also unnatural or imprecise, such as “marine bodies” and “implied easily” for solutions. There is repetition of “proper” and “waste disposal/handling.” Build a more accurate range of collocations for recycling and public policy, and proofread spelling and word forms so that the vocabulary communicates ideas more naturally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and more complex structures, including relative clauses (“which is essential for waste management”) and a conditional-style result (“which could provide several benefits” is the intended relationship). Most ideas remain understandable, but some sentence-boundary and clause errors affect accuracy. “Which can lead to numerous problems…” is a fragment because it is separated from the preceding sentence, and “There is lack of proper machinery” needs an article. In “some reward should given,” the passive verb form is incomplete; “should be given” is required. There are also missing articles and punctuation around sentence boundaries. Practise forming complete sentences and checking articles, passive constructions and clause links; greater accuracy in these areas would make the varied structures more controlled.
