You have enrolled in an evening course but you have found that you are too busy to continue and would like to take the course next term instead.

Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Coordinator,

I am writing this letter in concern that I have enrolled in an evening program in digital marketing. However, I have come to find that I have a tight schedule. Therefore, I would like to request to be enrolled in the course by next term.

To begin with, I am very sorry that I have some important project work at my company, and my boss has ordered me to stay and finish this project as soon as possible. Moreover, I have to take my kids to take for the dance classes. Therefore, joining the evening session is not possible.

Owing to suffering from this situation I would like to take my evening claases of fundamental of digital marketing in the another term instead of this term.

I would like to request to give some advice or some solutions with alternative options that would be better.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Best regards,

Harshil Trivedi

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

The response addresses all three bullet points of the task: explaining the situation, stating the desired outcome (deferral), and asking for advice. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation regarding the 'important project' and 'dance classes' is brief. While the task is fully covered, the ideas could be expanded slightly to provide a more natural flow. The purpose of the letter is clear from the outset, and the reader is left in no doubt about the writer's intentions.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the situation from the request. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'Therefore' are used to link ideas, although some transitions feel slightly mechanical. The progression of ideas is logical, moving from the problem to the proposed solution and finally to the request for advice. The referencing is generally clear, ensuring the reader can follow the narrative without difficulty.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their meaning clearly. There are some minor inaccuracies, such as 'in concern that' (should be 'concerning the fact that') and 'take my kids to take for the dance classes' (redundant 'take'). The phrase 'suffering from this situation' is slightly unnatural in this context. While the range is sufficient to communicate the message, it lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band score. Spelling is generally accurate throughout the text.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical slips, such as 'enrolled in the course by next term' (should be 'for next term') and 'claases of fundamental of digital marketing' (pluralization and article errors). Despite these errors, the meaning remains clear, and the mistakes do not impede communication. The control of punctuation is generally good, and the sentence structure is varied enough to maintain the reader's interest. Further attention to preposition usage and article placement would improve accuracy.
