Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all three bullet points of the task: explaining the situation, stating the desire to defer, and asking for advice. However, the development of these points is somewhat limited. The explanation regarding the 'middle class family' is unnecessary personal information that does not directly serve the task. The request for advice is also quite vague and repetitive. To improve, focus on providing more specific details about the course or the nature of the work conflict, and ensure the tone remains professional throughout the letter.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive feature. However, the progression of ideas is sometimes disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is basic and occasionally mechanical, such as the repetitive use of 'Because' to start sentences. The transition between the explanation of the situation and the request for advice could be smoother. To reach a higher band, try to use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus that flows logically into the next.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'I am from English spoken evening course' and 'I have financially burden'. These errors occasionally hinder the natural flow of the text. The vocabulary is somewhat repetitive, relying on simple structures to convey meaning. To improve, focus on learning common collocations related to formal correspondence and work-life balance, and pay closer attention to word forms (e.g., 'financial burden' instead of 'financially burden').
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that affect clarity. Examples include 'I could couldn't manage', 'doing my regular job', and 'accept me request'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of semicolons and commas. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and basic sentence construction will significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
