Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: explaining your situation, stating your desire to defer, and asking for advice. However, the development of these points is somewhat limited. The explanation regarding your work and family schedule is a bit repetitive, and the request for advice is quite vague. To improve, ensure that each point is fully expanded with clear, logical sentences. For example, instead of simply stating you are busy, you could provide a more specific reason for the scheduling conflict to make your request for a deferral more persuasive and professional.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The letter follows a basic structure, but the flow between ideas is often disjointed. While you use some transition words like 'First of all', the connection between your interest in the course and your request to change terms is not smooth. Paragraphing is present, but the sentences within the paragraphs often lack logical progression. For instance, the second paragraph jumps from your interest in culinary skills to a discussion about modern techniques without a clear link. Improving the use of cohesive devices and ensuring each paragraph has a clear, singular focus would significantly enhance the readability of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but there are several spelling errors ('scheudle', 'culnery', 'diffiently') and awkward word choices ('no less information'). These errors occasionally force the reader to pause to understand your meaning. To reach a higher band, you should focus on using more precise vocabulary related to the context of a formal request, such as 'deferment' instead of 'change my term'. Additionally, ensure you proofread your work to eliminate basic spelling mistakes, as these detract from the professional tone required for a formal letter.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

Your writing relies heavily on simple sentence structures, and there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with prepositions and verb tense consistency (e.g., 'my daughter comes at home at home', 'I have no less information when I would continue'). There is also an issue with punctuation and capitalization, such as the space before the comma in 'First of all ,'. To improve, try to incorporate a wider variety of complex sentence structures and pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement and correct preposition usage. Reviewing basic sentence construction will help reduce the frequency of errors that currently impede the clarity of your message.
