Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, reaching only 91 words. This significant under-length results in an incomplete response that fails to develop the required points sufficiently. While the student identifies the situation and asks for advice, the lack of development means the task is only partially addressed. To improve, the student must expand on the reasons for the difficulty, provide more context regarding the desired course change, and use a formal letter structure, including appropriate salutations and sign-offs, which are currently missing.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response is written as a single, informal block of text without paragraphing. There is a lack of logical progression or clear structure expected in a formal letter. Cohesive devices are almost entirely absent, making the flow of ideas feel disjointed. The informal tone, such as starting with 'hello advicer', is inappropriate for a formal request. To improve, the student should use clear paragraph breaks for each bullet point and incorporate linking words like 'consequently', 'furthermore', or 'in addition' to connect ideas more effectively.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, relying on simple phrases like 'hard for me' and 'help me a lot'. There is no attempt to use more sophisticated or topic-specific vocabulary related to academic courses or formal correspondence. Spelling errors such as 'clases' and 'focuse' are present, and the word choice is generally too informal for the context of a formal request to an institution. Expanding the range of vocabulary to include more precise academic and professional terminology is essential for a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The grammar is characterized by frequent errors in punctuation and sentence structure. The response lacks capital letters at the beginning of sentences and uses informal, run-on sentence structures. There are errors in subject-verb agreement and preposition usage, such as 'batch with a fewer students'. The range of grammatical structures is very limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences. To improve, the student needs to focus on basic sentence construction, proper capitalization, and the use of more complex sentence forms to demonstrate control over English grammar.
