Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: explaining your situation, stating your intention to defer, and asking for advice. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat repetitive, particularly regarding your mother's health and the timeline. To improve, ensure that each bullet point is distinct and clearly linked to the purpose of the letter. While the task is fulfilled, the explanation could be more concise to allow for a more professional closing statement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your message. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally inaccurate. For example, the transition 'Moreover' is used to introduce a point that repeats information already provided in the previous paragraph. Additionally, the flow between sentences is sometimes interrupted by grammatical errors, such as in the second paragraph where the connection between the doctor's advice and your need to be present is slightly disjointed. Improving the use of linking words would help create a smoother progression of ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your situation clearly. You use some relevant phrases like 'discontinue' and 'busy schedule'. However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'takecare' (should be two words: 'take care'), 'get assigened' (should be 'assigned'), and 'benefical' (spelling error). To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring accurate spelling of common words. The range is sufficient for the task but lacks the flexibility required for higher scores.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow of reading. Notable issues include subject-verb agreement ('The doctor suggest her'), incorrect preposition usage ('be their with her'), and awkward sentence construction ('If you would have any better advice for me, I will happy to take that advice'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma placement. To improve, focus on basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like verb tense consistency and subject-verb agreement.
