Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You explained your situation regarding your mother's accident, stated your desire to defer the course to the next term, and requested advice on how to proceed. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter, and the purpose is clear throughout. To improve, ensure that you provide more specific details regarding the course name or your student ID to help the administration process your request more efficiently. Overall, the response is well-focused and meets the requirements of the task effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your narrative. You use some cohesive devices such as 'consequently' and 'unfortunately' to link ideas. However, some transitions are a bit mechanical, and the sentence structure is occasionally fragmented, such as starting sentences with 'but' or 'and'. To reach a higher band, try to integrate these ideas into more complex, flowing sentences and ensure that the progression between the explanation of the accident and the request for deferral is smoother.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly, such as 'obliged', 'anticipation', and 'responsibility'. However, there are several errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'corse' instead of 'course', 'guid' instead of 'guide', and 'time to time food' which is not a natural collocation. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more attention to spelling and standard English collocations. Expanding your vocabulary to include more precise academic or formal phrases would enhance your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the' stairs, 'a' diabetic patient), verb tenses ('I started these class'), and punctuation (frequent sentence fragments). For example, 'doctor said she need to take rest 2 month' lacks necessary articles and prepositions. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of these errors limits the score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles will significantly improve your accuracy.
