Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all three bullet points required in the task instructions. You successfully explain the situation regarding your evening course and why you cannot continue due to a new evening job and financial reasons. You also clearly state what you would like to do, which is to postpone your studies to the next term, and you ask for advice on the best way to handle the situation. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive in places, particularly when explaining the job situation. Despite this, all parts of the prompt are addressed, fulfilling the requirements for Band 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter has a clear overall progression and logical arrangement, with appropriate formal letter formatting such as the salutation and sign-off. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate different points, such as the explanation of the problem, the proposed solution, and the request for advice. Cohesive devices are used adequately, though some linking is basic or repetitive (for example, starting sentences with 'However' or 'Could you please'). Referencing is generally clear, and the overall structure makes the letter easy to follow. This aligns well with the Band 6 descriptors.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your message clearly. You attempt some less common expressions, such as 'financial situation' and 'part-time job'. However, there are noticeable word choice and collocation errors throughout the text, such as writing 'i have enrolled the course' instead of 'enrolled in the course', 'conducted in a evening time' instead of 'in the evening', and 'aid support family' instead of 'support my family'. There are also minor capitalization errors like 'i'. These errors do not impede communication, placing your vocabulary in the Band 5.5 to 6.0 range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and some complex sentence forms, such as conditional and subordinate clauses ('I would be more happy if i could do this course'). However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with verb tenses ('Last week i have enrolled', 'is schedule for evening only') and articles ('an evening time'). While these errors are noticeable and detract from the accuracy of the writing, they rarely impede the overall communication of your message. Your control of grammar fits the Band 5.5 level.
