Student answer (Band 5.0)
Hello Sir,
I want to inform you about my secision to continue my course in next term.
As you know that i take addmission for French class in the evening course, but i need to go to India for some family reasons and i can not pay out fees again. That's why i could not continue my class now. I decide that after coming back from India i will continue my studies in next term.
That will also help me to focus on my studies because i will be free from my stress. In the next term i do lot of practice to learn french and get good score in to my exam. If you have any solution for my situation then let me.
i am eagrly waiting for you response.
Your faithfully,
Pooja Sharma

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers all three bullet points required in the task instructions. The writer successfully explains the situation and why she cannot continue by mentioning that she must travel to India for family reasons and cannot afford to pay fees again. She also states what she would like to do about her studies by expressing her intention to resume the course next term, and she asks for advice or solutions from the recipient. However, the response has a noticeable negative impact on Task Achievement due to the length requirement: the student's text contains only 135 words, falling short of the 150-word minimum. Because of this under-length penalty, the task cannot be fully developed to higher bands, resulting in a score of 5.5.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The letter is divided into multiple short paragraphs and salutations, giving it a conventional letter structure. Ideas have a basic overall progression, such as starting with the purpose of the email, explaining the reasons, stating future plans, and concluding with a request. However, paragraphing is poorly managed and unconventional; sentences are frequently broken into single-sentence paragraphs like 'That will also help me to focus on my studies because i will be free from my stress.' Cohesive devices are basic and repetitive, such as 'That's why' and 'That will also help'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the overall logical flow is somewhat disjointed. Overall, these features align best with Band 5.0 descriptors.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student uses a limited, basic vocabulary range that is minimally adequate for the task. Words such as 'situation', 'studies', and 'family reasons' are used correctly, but there are numerous spelling and word-choice errors, including 'secision' instead of decision, 'addmission' instead of admission, 'pay out fees' instead of pay our fees or pay fees, 'do lot of practice' instead of do a lot of practice, and 'eagrly waiting for you response' instead of eagerly waiting for your response. These errors demonstrate a restricted lexical control, though they do not completely impede communication. This performance fits the Band 5.0 descriptors well.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, such as 'As you know that i take addmission for French class...'. However, grammatical accuracy is weak. There are frequent errors in tense usage and verb forms, such as 'i want to inform you about my secision to continue my course in next term' (future/modal confusion), 'i take addmission' (incorrect tense for past event), 'i could not continue' versus 'i decide that after coming back...', and 'let me' missing an object like 'know'. Punctuation and capitalization are also faulty, notably the lowercase 'i' used throughout. These frequent errors cause some difficulty for the reader, placing the grammar score solidly at Band 5.0.
