Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I am writing this letter to inform you that I have enrolled in six month Data Science course in your institution in eveening session but I am unable to continue this course due to some reasons.
I would like to mention that I am working in a IT company as a software developer. I asked for permission to attend this course from my employer but he did not give me his consent to attend this course in this term because our company is working on goverment project and we have to complete with in 2 months. They have assigned me numerous responsibilities to complete this project according to deadline. Moreover, my employer instruct me to attend this course in the next term.
Sir, I really ambitious to attend this course in the next term. Could provide me the detailed schedule of this course for next session so that I can plan my work schedule accordingly.
I look forward to hear from you soon.
Thank you,
Yours faithfully,
Rajdeep kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response successfully covers all the bullet points outlined in the task instructions. You have clearly explained the situation by mentioning your enrollment in the Data Science evening course and why you cannot continue due to your employer refusing consent because of an ongoing government project. Furthermore, you have stated what you would like to do regarding your studies, specifically expressing your ambition to attend the course in the next term. Finally, you successfully asked for advice and requested the detailed schedule for the next session. The tone is appropriately formal for a letter to an institution, and all aspects of the prompt are fully addressed with relevant, well-developed ideas, earning a solid band score.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter is logically organised with a clear beginning, body paragraphs addressing your situation and request, and a standard closing. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate your introduction, the explanation of your work situation, your request, and your sign-off. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover' and 'so that' are employed to connect ideas, though paragraph transitions and referencing could be slightly smoother. For instance, transitioning directly into the request with 'Sir, I really ambitious...' feels a bit abrupt. Overall, the logical progression is clear throughout and the arrangement of information is coherent.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, with attempts to use less common items such as 'consent', 'numerous responsibilities', and 'schedule'. However, there are a few word choice and collocation inaccuracies, such as writing 'six month Data Science course' (missing 'a' and a hyphen) and 'in eveening session' (spelling error). You also wrote 'I really ambitious' instead of 'I am really ambitious'. While these lexical errors occur, the range of vocabulary is sufficient to convey your message clearly without impeding communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as the conditional-like structure using 'so that I can plan my work schedule accordingly'. However, there are several grammatical errors throughout the text. These include missing articles ('a six-month course', 'an IT company'), spelling errors ('eveening', 'goverment'), prepositions ('complete with in 2 months' instead of 'within'), and missing auxiliary verbs ('Could provide me' instead of 'Could you provide me'). There is also a tense and agreement issue in 'my employer instruct me'. These frequent minor errors place the grammar firmly in the Band 6 category.
