Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir, Madam
I have pursued in Master of Management course at the University of Niagara falls from Fall term but due to busy schedule of my job and household chores I cannot continue the course in this term because it is not easy for me to manage my job in the morning and do my household chores in the evening. I also suffer from insominia due to lack of sleep so, I want to do this program in the next winter term.
As I did commerce as my previous studies, I like to do enterprenuership and to get more knowledge about finance which is the most attractive part for me about this study. Moreover, I want do become an enterprenuer after this study to run a dairy farm business in India. This study will help me to understand about how to start a business and how to manage it properly. I want to do this program for my better future so, if you have any other idea to tackle my situation and help me to continue this program please let me know. I hope to hear positive from your side.
Yours faithfully,
Parmjit

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points: you explain that work and household responsibilities prevent you from continuing, state that you want to resume in the winter term, and ask for advice. The reason is relevant, and mentioning insomnia adds useful context. Your interest in management and your future dairy-farm business also explains why you value the course. However, the request could be more specific: for example, ask whether you can defer your enrolment, transfer fees, or rejoin next term. The discussion of your career plans is more developed than the practical details of your request. This covers the task well overall, but fuller development of the next steps would make the letter more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter has a clear overall shape: the first paragraph explains your circumstances, while the second gives your study goals and asks for help. The ideas are generally easy to follow, and linking expressions such as “Moreover” and “so” show how points relate. However, the second paragraph combines your academic background, career ambitions, course benefits, and request in one long sequence, so the progression becomes less clear. Some links are also mechanical, particularly the repeated use of “so.” Consider separating your future plans from the practical request and using clearer transitions, such as “For this reason” or “Could you advise me whether…?” This would make the organisation more controlled.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for the situation, including “household chores,” “insomnia,” “finance,” and “manage,” and your meaning is generally understandable. There are, however, noticeable spelling and word-choice problems that reduce precision: “insominia” and “enterprenuership” are misspelled, while “I have pursued in Master of Management course” is not a natural way to describe enrolment. Phrases such as “hear positive from your side” and “do this program” also sound awkward in a formal letter. Aim for accurate, natural collocations and check spelling carefully. A more precise range would help you express your request and professional goals with greater fluency.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a reason clause with “because” and a conditional phrase beginning “if you have any other idea.” The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors occur in sentence construction and verb patterns. For example, “I want do become” should be “I want to become,” and “I want do this program” needs “to do.” In “I have pursued in Master of Management course,” the verb pattern and article use are incorrect; “I have been enrolled in a Master of Management course” would be clearer. The opening sentence is also overloaded, with several ideas joined together. Use shorter sentences where needed and check infinitives, articles, and punctuation.
