Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
i'm writing to inform you to that i'm unable to continue to attending the evening course this term because of mu busy schedule. i would like to ask if it would be possible to continue the course next term instead.
recently,i have had a several important responsibilities relatedto my studies and family. as a result, i have found it difficult to manage my time properly and attend the evening classes regularly. i do not want my busy seduled to affect my learning or academic performance.
i am still very interested in completing this course because i believe it will help me improve my knowledge and develop useful skills for my future career. Therefore, i would preferbto post pone my studies until next term, when i hope to have more free time and ablento concentrate fully on the course. if you coukd let me know whether i need to complete any formalities to transfer my enrolment to the next term.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address the main purpose clearly: you explain that a busy schedule and responsibilities involving study and family prevent regular attendance, and you request to continue next term. Your continued interest in the course and the reason it matters for your future career also support your request. The final sentence asks whether formalities are needed, which partly addresses the request for advice. However, the task’s advice point is not fully developed: you could ask what options are available, such as deferring enrolment or transferring fees, and what steps or deadlines apply. The reasons for your schedule difficulties are relevant but remain general, so a little more specific explanation would make the letter more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: it opens with the request, explains the circumstances, gives your reason for wanting to complete the course, and ends with a question. Paragraphing helps the reader follow these stages, and links such as “as a result” and “because” show relationships between ideas. This meets the lower-band expectations securely and shows some features of stronger progression. However, the final request is attached to the sentence about your future plans, making the ending feel abrupt; a separate closing paragraph would make the advice request more prominent. The transition from explaining your difficulties to describing your future goals could also be smoother, and the sign-off should be clearly separated from the body.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for the situation, including “responsibilities,” “academic performance,” “completing this course,” and “formalities.” These choices communicate your purpose and show some range beyond basic expressions. However, several spelling and word-choice errors reduce accuracy and make the letter less polished, including “seduled,” “post pone,” and “ablento.” There are also awkward phrases such as “busy schedule” repeated in meaning and “improve my knowledge,” which could be expressed more naturally in this context. Aim to check spelling carefully and learn common collocations for formal requests. More precise wording for your circumstances and the action you want the institution to take would strengthen the vocabulary further.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including a reason clause with “because” and a result structure beginning “as a result.” The main message remains understandable, and the sentence about your responsibilities communicates a clear cause and effect. Some grammatical errors nevertheless affect accuracy: “unable to continue to attending” has an incorrect verb pattern, and “i have had a several important responsibilities” uses an incorrect article construction. Capitalisation and punctuation are also inconsistent, particularly at sentence beginnings and in the closing. The final request beginning “if you could let me know” is not completed as a fully formed sentence. Review verb patterns after “continue,” article use, and sentence boundaries; these corrections would make your varied structures more controlled.
