Student answer (Band 5.5)
It is often argued that smoking is a harmful habit to everyone's life. It may result in some killing and incurable diseases, that's why it has to be banned and punished anyone who smoke. I firmly agreewith that view for several reasons.
One of the major reason why i agree upon prohibiting smoking all over the world is that it is a destructive and addictive habit , because, numerous individuals cannot quit that nasty habit easily. As a result, it leads to some incurable diseases, may be causing death. For example, someone who tends to smoke regularly during almost thirty years cannot give up smoking effotlessly, which my cause the deteriorating of health and may be get sich of lung cancer, or having a heart attack.
Another substantial purpose of that filthy habit is that it can cause some breathing problems as well as the bad smell which my consequently leads to having some serious illnesses such as asthma and bronchits. Thus, goverment has to ban and punish anyone who tend to smoke in public area by taxing him or making him pay a fine due to his deed.
last but not least, smoking can destruct one's life and the one of his family. I believe that state must play an important role in helping those smokers by offering them free treatement sessions and therapy to avoid smoking and tax any company that sells cigarette.
In conclusion, i strongly believe that smoking is quite dangerous fro the human wellbeing as well as it is a damage to our environment. So , i is crucial that goverments interfer and give practical solutions to this phnomenon that have overspread recently in our societies.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear from the introduction (“I firmly agree”) and remains consistent in the conclusion. You give relevant reasons, including addiction, illness, effects on families, and possible government action such as treatment and fines. These points address the question, but some are not fully explained. For instance, the example of a long-term smoker mentions lung cancer and heart attacks, yet does not show why making smoking illegal would prevent these outcomes. The discussion also shifts between banning smoking in public and banning it altogether, so the extent of your agreement could be defined more precisely. To strengthen the response, explain the likely effects and limits of prohibition, and develop each example with a clearer link to your position.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two main supporting paragraphs, a further point, and a conclusion. Sequencing phrases such as “One of the major reason,” “Another substantial purpose,” and “last but not least” help signal the progression. However, the links can feel mechanical, and some connections between claims are unclear. For example, the paragraph about breathing problems moves from health effects to fines for smoking in public without explaining the transition. The final body paragraph combines family harm, treatment, and taxing cigarette companies, which would be clearer if these ideas were separated or linked explicitly. Use fewer formulaic transitions and make the relationship between each reason, example, and proposed policy more explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You attempt a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “addictive,” “incurable diseases,” “deteriorating of health,” and “practical solutions.” This shows an effort to express ideas beyond basic terms. However, inaccurate word choice, collocation, and spelling are noticeable and sometimes make the meaning less clear. Examples include “some killing” for deaths, “destructive habit,” “bad smell,” and “a damage to our environment”; “effotlessly,” “bronchits,” and “phnomenon” also contain spelling errors. Some expressions, such as “filthy habit,” sound overly emotional for an academic essay. Aim for precise, natural combinations and check spelling carefully; this would make your vocabulary more effective and appropriate to the task.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You use both simple statements and attempts at longer sentences, including a cause-and-effect example beginning “For example, someone who tends to smoke regularly…” This gives the response some structural variety. However, errors in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence construction recur and sometimes make sentences difficult to follow. For example, “One of the major reason” needs a plural noun, while “punished anyone who smoke” has an incorrect verb form and an unclear construction. In “which my cause,” the modal phrase is formed incorrectly, and the final sentence contains several problems in “So, i is crucial that goverments interfer.” Practise accurate clause construction and subject–verb agreement, and proofread punctuation and sentence boundaries.
