Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address the topic and give a relevant position: rather than arguing for an immediate ban, you conclude that smoking should be phased out through taxation and education. The examples about Rajinikanth’s influence and your uncle’s smoking habit make the discussion specific, and the health effects are relevant. However, the extent of your agreement is not stated clearly at the beginning, and much of the response explains smoking’s popularity and harms rather than directly weighing whether it should be made illegal. The list of effects is also asserted rather than explained, while the economic obstacle to a ban is only briefly developed. State your position explicitly in the introduction and explain why your proposed approach is preferable to prohibition.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph on smoking’s cultural appeal, a section on health effects, discussion of government action, and a concluding recommendation. This gives the reader a general path through your ideas. Some links, however, are mechanical or unclear. The transition “Due to which now he suffers” is not smoothly connected to the example, and the list of health effects interrupts the essay’s paragraph-based development. The final paragraph repeats the idea of phasing smoking out without clearly linking it to the earlier point about the difficulty of banning tobacco. Use topic sentences to show how each paragraph answers the question, and connect examples and consequences with clearer referencing.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “addictive,” “nicotine,” “tobacco industry,” “infertility,” and “phase out.” The references to “double-edged sword” and “tight grip on the world economy” also show attempts to use less common expressions. However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable, including “ilness,” “vapping,” “weezing,” and “shortless in breath.” Some phrases are also unnatural or imprecise, such as “reduces the stress momentarily,” “shown for being awesome,” and “face out the tobacco.” These do not prevent the main message from being understood, but they reduce precision and fluency. Check spelling carefully and learn natural collocations, for example “relieves stress temporarily,” “portrayed as glamorous,” and “phase out tobacco products.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a contrast with “but” and a cause-and-effect sentence beginning “Due to the strong influence…”. Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors affect clarity. For example, “Smoking is one of the most addictive habits that causes” has an unclear agreement relationship, and “In the recent years a new type of smoking in becoming popular” has errors in its opening phrase and verb form. The sentence beginning “Due to which now he suffers” is also an incomplete construction when used after the preceding sentence. Aim to make each sentence grammatically complete, check subject–verb agreement and verb forms, and use punctuation to separate the health-effects list from the essay’s main argument.
