Student answer (Band 6.5)
Most of the people agrees with that smoking is injurious to the health and it should be illegal in the world because it puts a bad impact to the health as well as in the environment. I agree that this can cause serious illness and can be made illegal in this world.
According to my opinion, smoking is very dangerous for our health purposes and it gives birth to many illnesses. For instance, an experiment was completed in 2016, smokers have 10% less lives as compare to the non-smokers. As we all know that smoking is also dangerous for the environment as well and it decreases the air quality. That put a bad impact on the people especially for the children who are under 10 years old.
On the other hand, I understand that some of the people like smoking because of the status in the society. They think that smoking is a symbol of their wealth. But in reality, it is opposite of that. They did not understand that it puts a harsh impact on their lives as well. As we all know that smoking had a direct impact on the kidneys and it started syncing if someone smokes on a regular basis.
In conclusion, I want to say that smoking had a bad impact on the health and in environment. I understand that we cannot completely removed smoking from the society but we can put a restriction to decrease it. So the government should have to take necessary steps to reduce the usability of smokes among the society.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses the prompt by expressing a clear position on the illegality of smoking. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention health and environmental impacts, the arguments lack depth and specific evidence. For example, the claim that 'smokers have 10% less lives' is vague and lacks a clear logical explanation. The counter-argument regarding social status is introduced but not fully explored or effectively refuted. To improve, ensure that each body paragraph provides a well-developed explanation and a concrete, logical example that directly supports your main argument. The conclusion is present but could be more robust in summarizing the main points.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use some cohesive devices like 'On the other hand' and 'In conclusion' to signal shifts in the text. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the use of referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the phrase 'it started syncing' which lacks a clear antecedent or logical connection to the previous point. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that the transition between ideas is smoother and more natural.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and range required for a higher band. There are several instances of awkward word choices or non-standard collocations, such as 'gives birth to many illnesses', 'bad impact to the health', and 'usability of smokes'. These errors do not prevent understanding, but they do limit the sophistication of your writing. To improve, try to learn collocations in context—for example, instead of 'bad impact', use 'detrimental effect' or 'adverse consequences'. Expanding your range of topic-specific vocabulary will also help.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('Most of the people agrees'), incorrect verb tenses ('smoking had a direct impact'), and awkward phrasing ('it started syncing'). While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and ensuring consistent verb tense usage throughout your writing.
