Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by stating a clear position in favor of banning smoking. However, the essay is significantly under the 250-word minimum requirement, which limits the depth of the arguments. While you provide some reasons, such as health risks and public discomfort, the development is superficial. The inclusion of specific statistics (e.g., the 80% figure) is a good attempt at support, but the lack of sufficient word count means the ideas are not fully extended or explored. To improve, you must expand on your points with more detailed explanations and examples to meet the length requirement and provide a more comprehensive argument.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. There is a basic attempt at logical progression, moving from the health impacts on youth to the public discomfort caused by smoking. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally inaccurate, such as 'The proponents which says,' which is grammatically incorrect and disrupts the flow. The transition between ideas could be smoother, and the concluding paragraph is very brief and does not effectively summarize the main points of the essay. Improving the variety and accuracy of linking words will enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but contains several spelling errors, such as 'cigarates', 'tabacoo', 'lucrated', and 'habbits'. These errors are frequent enough to be noticeable. You attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'proponents' and 'addicted', but the range is limited. There are also issues with word choice, such as 'prey young ones towards any direction', which is not a natural collocation. To reach a higher band, you should focus on accurate spelling and expanding your range of vocabulary to include more precise terms related to health and public policy.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Examples include 'A plenty of people', 'reports also shows', and 'The proponents which says... has their own reasons'. These errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement and pluralization, occur frequently. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of errors prevents the text from reaching a higher band. You should focus on proofreading for basic grammatical rules, such as subject-verb agreement and the correct use of relative pronouns, to improve the accuracy of your writing.
