Student answer (Band 6.5)
It is undenying fact that, smoking is injuries to health. Smoking is one of the major cause of the cancer these days. Regular smokers tends to get older faster as compared to non smokers.
I am totally agree to this point that smoking can cause serious illnesses and should be made illegal.
Firslty, as mentioned above smoking is one of the major reaon for cancers. Many studies have revealed that continous smokers developed cancers cells much fasters than the non smokers. Moreover, other than cancer, continous smoking can lead TB, damages to lungs and etc.
Secondly, effect of smoking is not only limited to active smokers but its also effect passive smokers significantly.
Moreover, smoking leads to damage the environment by polluting the air with its toxic smokes.
Moving ahead, it should be banned and made illegal, as it will help save many lifes.
Making it illegal will not solve the whole problem but atleast it will restrict the open selling, making it difficult for people to buy and open in public specially younger generation.
For instance, Gujrat state of India had banned cigrattes since 2004, while it is allowed it other states or in neighbouring states. A public data show that, people of Gujrat state have much healthy lungs as compared to people of neighbouring states.
Similarly, number of teenage smokers are respectively higher in other states as compared to the state of Gujrat.
In conclusion, smoking can and do causes serious illeness and should be banned or made illegal.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of banning smoking. The ideas are relevant, covering health risks, passive smoking, and environmental impact. However, the development is somewhat superficial. While you provide an example regarding the state of Gujarat, the explanation of how a ban would function in practice is limited. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your arguments with more detailed reasoning or nuanced analysis of the counter-arguments, such as the economic impact or the challenges of enforcement, to show a deeper engagement with the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and there are instances where the connection between ideas could be smoother. For example, the transition between the health benefits and the environmental impact could be better integrated. Additionally, some referencing is slightly unclear, such as the use of 'it' in 'its also effect passive smokers', which requires more precise pronoun usage to improve clarity.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it is often repetitive and contains several errors in word form and collocation. For instance, you use 'injuries' instead of 'injurious' and 'reaon' instead of 'reason'. Phrases like 'continous smokers' and 'developed cancers cells' show a lack of precision. While you attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'passive smokers' and 'toxic', the range is limited. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring that word forms (nouns vs. adjectives) are used correctly in context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('smokers tends', 'smoking... do causes'), missing articles, and incorrect verb forms ('smoking is injuries'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would significantly improve your score.
