Student answer (Band 6.5)

It is undeniable that smoking can cause for serious diseases such as liver cancer, lungs disability as well as asthma that can creates problem in breathing. I am completely agreeing with the notion of making smoke illegal due to some reasons which would be beneficial for the people life and for the growth of nation.

Smoking should be made illegal in the whole country by implementing strict rules because if there is not availability of smoking individual will not have any other option to buy smoke from any local or online platforms and people will try to help themselves by spending a time with family or keep themselves busy in tasks so they cannot feel the need of smoking. Moreover, government should take prompt actions who will sell these products illegally and give them a strict punishment or high fines so, for the next time they will not get courage to go against the enforcement's laws.

Furthermore, along with rules and punishments, government and local communities should organise some de-addiction events and promotes to rehabilitation centres to educate people about the results of smoking that leads to the serious illnesses. Moreover, legal authorities should give smokers to free consultation and treatment to overcome their smoking habit.

Apart from this, if government get success to making smoking illegal that would be helpful for the growth of economy and society because the people will spend money on necessary things instead of wasting to buy cigarettes or vaping. It will not only helpful to create good atmosphere for the society as well as to drug-free world for children to take fresh breath.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of banning smoking. The ideas are relevant, covering enforcement, public health initiatives, and economic benefits. However, the development is somewhat superficial. For instance, the argument regarding the economic impact is a bit simplistic, and the essay ends abruptly mid-sentence, which constitutes a significant omission in the conclusion. While the main points are clear, they lack the depth and nuanced exploration required for a higher band. To improve, ensure that each paragraph fully develops its point and always complete your conclusion to provide a sense of closure.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, each with a central theme. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Furthermore', and 'Apart from this' are used to link ideas. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly repetitive. The referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the second paragraph where the flow between the government's role and the individual's actions feels a bit disjointed. The abrupt ending significantly impacts the overall coherence of the piece, as the final paragraph is incomplete. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring a smooth transition between ideas would enhance the logical flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their opinions clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'de-addiction' and 'rehabilitation', but there are also persistent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'lungs disability' instead of 'lung disease' and 'give smokers to free consultation'. Some phrasing is slightly unnatural, such as 'get success to making'. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring that word forms are used correctly in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the reader's flow. Examples include 'can creates problem' (subject-verb agreement), 'if there is not availability' (awkward phrasing), and 'government get success to making' (incorrect verb form). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While the meaning is generally conveyed, the frequency of these errors limits the score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of prepositions would significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
