Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The essay addresses the prompt by expressing a clear position in favor of banning smoking. However, the development of ideas is limited. While you provide a personal anecdote about your father, the second body paragraph lacks depth and relies on generalizations about 'body stamina' and 'spam count' (likely meaning sperm count), which are not clearly explained. The conclusion introduces new suggestions (school classes) rather than summarizing the main points. To improve, ensure each paragraph focuses on a single, well-supported argument that directly relates to the prompt's requirement to discuss whether smoking should be made illegal.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the logical progression between ideas is often disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes inaccurate, such as the abrupt transition 'finally one day my family lost my father' or the confusing start to the second paragraph. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and the flow of ideas within paragraphs is hindered by repetitive sentence structures. To improve, use a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'consequently', 'furthermore', 'in addition') and ensure that each sentence logically follows the previous one to create a smoother narrative.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is generally basic and sometimes imprecise. There are several instances where word choice is awkward or incorrect, such as 'smoking injuries are very harmful in physical life' and 'smoking kill the life for human body'. The term 'spam count' is likely a misuse of 'sperm count'. While you attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary, the lack of precision makes it difficult to convey your arguments effectively. To reach a higher band, focus on learning collocations (words that naturally go together) and avoid literal translations from your native language.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'smoking kill'), incorrect verb tenses, and missing articles. Sentence structures are predominantly simple, and there is a lack of complex sentences. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with many run-on sentences and missing spaces after periods. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles. Once these are consistent, try to incorporate more complex structures like relative clauses or conditional sentences to demonstrate a wider range.
