Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of banning smoking. The ideas are relevant, covering health risks, second-hand smoke, and cognitive impacts. However, the development of these points is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding 'brain cells' and 'cognitive ability' is asserted without clear evidence or logical connection to smoking. While the position is consistent throughout, the supporting arguments lack the depth required for a higher band. The essay covers all parts of the task, but the reasoning remains somewhat superficial and repetitive in its structure.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, each with a central topic. There is a logical progression from health impacts to social and cognitive consequences. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as 'It cause of serious breating issues' or 'Therefore, people should be awared'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the flow between sentences is occasionally hindered by grammatical errors. While the overall structure is coherent, the lack of sophisticated linking words and the repetitive sentence starters limit the score in this criterion.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several instances of word-choice errors, such as 'alarming issues for a society' (should be 'issue'), 'damma' (likely intended 'asthma'), and 'societical' (should be 'societal'). The student attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'cognitive ability' and 'detrimental effects', which is positive, but these are offset by frequent spelling errors and awkward collocations. To improve, the student needs to focus on accurate word forms and expanding their range of academic vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but accuracy is a significant issue. There are frequent errors in subject-verb agreement ('People who smokes', 'It cause of'), article usage, and sentence construction ('If adults do not able to think'). These errors are persistent and occasionally make the reader work harder to understand the intended meaning. While the student attempts complex structures, the high frequency of basic grammatical mistakes prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. More attention to verb tenses and basic sentence syntax is required.
