Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of banning smoking. The ideas are relevant, such as health risks and family conflicts, though the development is somewhat superficial. For example, the point about family disputes in India is a specific observation but lacks a broader connection to the global argument. The suggestions for solutions, such as awareness campaigns and family activities, are relevant but could be more deeply explored to reach a higher band. The position is consistent throughout, and the main points are clearly identifiable, meeting the requirements for a Band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusion', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'To elaborate it' and 'To clarify it'. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the phrase 'addict this habit', which disrupts the flow. While the overall progression is logical, the use of cohesive devices is not always flexible or natural, placing this in the Band 6.0 category.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several instances of awkward word choices or incorrect collocations, such as 'excess smoking' (instead of 'heavy smoking'), 'charge penalty' (instead of 'fines'), and 'enroll themselves' (which is misused in context). The student attempts to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'proliferation' and 'prohibited', but the overall range is limited. Frequent minor errors in word choice are present, though they do not significantly impede the reader's understanding of the main arguments.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('it lead disputes'), article usage ('the drawback'), and awkward phrasing ('reasons of behind my argument will be discuss'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with hyphenation and comma usage. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors indicates a lack of control over more complex structures, which is characteristic of a Band 5.5 performance.
