Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of banning smoking. However, the development of ideas is limited and often unclear. For instance, the argument regarding social media and the influence of Bollywood actors is relevant but lacks sufficient depth or logical connection to the main premise of making smoking illegal. The points made about economic impact (GDP) and parental responsibility are mentioned but not fully extended or supported with coherent reasoning. The response stays on topic, but the lack of clarity in explaining the 'why' behind the arguments prevents a higher score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the progression of ideas is frequently disrupted by unclear phrasing and a lack of effective cohesive devices. Transitions between sentences are often mechanical or missing, making it difficult to follow the logical flow of the argument. For example, the transition 'However, If the government stop the smoking matriels' does not clearly link to the previous paragraph. Referencing is also inconsistent, which occasionally makes it hard to identify what the writer is referring to, such as the vague use of 'they' throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is quite limited and often inaccurate, which frequently impedes communication. There are numerous spelling errors (e.g., 'mane' for main, 'responcibal' for responsible, 'discrabing' for describing, 'pleatform' for platform) and word choice errors (e.g., 'begets' used incorrectly, 'distrect' for distract). The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas clearly. While the writer attempts to use topic-related words like 'illegal' and 'influence', the overall control of language is weak, and the frequent errors in word formation and spelling make the text difficult to read at times.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay relies on simple sentence structures, and attempts at more complex sentences are consistently marred by grammatical errors. There are frequent issues with subject-verb agreement, verb tense, and sentence construction (e.g., 'If they smoking cigarettes and weed so they Inger that strength'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing commas and incorrect capitalization. These errors occur throughout the text and often cause difficulty for the reader in understanding the intended meaning. The lack of control over basic grammatical rules significantly limits the clarity of the arguments presented.
