Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position, though the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. You provide reasons for why smoking is harmful, such as health risks and financial costs, and you acknowledge the economic counter-argument. However, the conclusion is contradictory; you initially agree that smoking should be illegal, but then suggest that public awareness campaigns are preferable to a ban. This inconsistency weakens your overall position. To improve, ensure your conclusion directly reflects the stance taken in your introduction and provide more focused, logical support for your main arguments rather than introducing new, slightly tangential points like the supply chain in China.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, and there is a logical progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'To commence', 'Moreover', and 'On the other hand', to signal transitions. However, some of these are used mechanically or incorrectly, such as 'Henceforth' in the conclusion, which does not fit the context. Additionally, the referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly in the final paragraph where the connection between the government, parents, and the suggestion to 'do anything in limit' is confusing. Improving the variety and accuracy of your linking words will help the flow of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'detrimental', 'elucidated', and 'passive smoking'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and non-standard collocations, such as 'addicted by smoking' (should be 'addicted to'), 'extenly' (likely a misspelling of 'extensively'), and 'campings' (should be 'campaigns'). The term 'wapes' is also a misspelling of 'vapes'. While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning, the frequent errors in word formation and collocation prevent you from reaching a higher band score. Focus on learning words in context to ensure natural usage.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'I am agree' (should be 'I agree'), 'lack of parents supervision' (should be 'parental supervision'), and 'this remedy has not been resulted with' (should be 'this remedy has not resulted in'). Subject-verb agreement and preposition usage are inconsistent. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be noticeable. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like missing articles and incorrect verb forms.
