Student answer (Band 6.0)

I completely agrees with the statement that smoking causes hazardous illnesses and should be made illegal. There are many reasons available to ban smoking. I would like to discuss few points to support my statement to eradicate smoking.

Firstly, Smoking is the one of the growing concerning factors among the society. Even though government is advertising borne effects and disadvantages caused by it, but people doesn't like quit. One of the reasons is nicotine. For example, cigars and cigarettes are made out from tobacco. It contains nicotine which is addictive substance one who smokes then once get habited to then. Hence, regular consumption causes serious lung cancers.

secondly, young children are getting involved in this. Most of them are under aged. For instant, teenagers are much fascinated and getting attracted to these. They believe it as they are having their fun time. Although there is age restriction, they are managing to get vape. Which is much more serious concern because it is sedative and they are loosing their valuable childhood. As a result youngsters are loosing their sense and interest in education.

Moreover, they are many rehab centers how are working with maximum efforts to bring awareness among the chain-smokers and helps them to get back to positive life. But people are not willing to join and give up smoking.

So to conclude, there should be a strict action and prohibition should be imposed to overcome the issue. Although, the government and some NGO are running companies and awareness programs, still this is rising issue in present world.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention health risks and the impact on youth, the arguments lack depth and specific evidence. For instance, the point about rehab centers is introduced but not clearly linked to why a total ban is the only solution. To improve, ensure each paragraph provides a more detailed explanation of your reasoning rather than just stating facts. The conclusion restates your position, but the overall argument would benefit from more sophisticated supporting points to reach a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'secondly', and 'Moreover' to signal transitions. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and some transitions are used incorrectly, such as 'Even though government is advertising... but people doesn't like quit'. The referencing is occasionally unclear, and the logical progression within paragraphs could be smoother. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that your sentences connect logically to one another without relying on repetitive structures.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using words like 'hazardous', 'addictive', and 'prohibition'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'advertising borne effects' (likely meaning 'warning about the effects') and 'loosing their sense' (should be 'losing'). Some phrases are also repetitive or imprecise, such as 'running companies' when referring to awareness programs. To improve, focus on learning common collocations and ensure you are using words in their correct context. Expanding your vocabulary to include more precise academic terms will help elevate your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('I completely agrees', 'people doesn't like'), article usage, and sentence fragments ('Which is much more serious concern...'). Additionally, there are errors in word forms, such as 'habited' instead of 'habituated' or 'addicted'. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring that complex sentences are constructed accurately.
