Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of banning smoking. However, the development of ideas is limited. The essay is under the 250-word minimum, which negatively impacts the depth of the argument. While the writer mentions health risks, the supporting evidence is vague and lacks logical flow. The conclusion is somewhat repetitive and does not fully synthesize the points made. Because the response is under-length and the ideas are not fully extended, it falls into the lower band range.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. While some cohesive devices are used (e.g., 'Moreover', 'In compendium'), they are often used incorrectly or sound unnatural, such as 'In compendium' to mean 'In conclusion'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the transition between ideas feels mechanical. The paragraphing is present, but the internal structure of the paragraphs lacks the necessary flow to guide the reader effectively through the argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is often misused, leading to awkward phrasing. Examples include 'chronical diseases are happened', 'consummate accord this notion', and '85% multitudes are died'. The writer attempts to use more sophisticated vocabulary like 'multifarious', 'conspicuous', and 'ingeminated', but these are often used incorrectly or in inappropriate contexts. This indicates a lack of control over word choice and collocation, which frequently impedes the clarity of the message.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that affect readability. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('diseases are happened'), article usage ('the the dangerous diseases'), and sentence structure ('people give more priority to smoke cigarette'). Complex sentence attempts are often faulty, such as 'by virtue of which they are suffering from hazard health problem'. While the meaning is generally discernible, the high frequency of errors in basic and complex structures limits the score.
