Student answer (Band 6.0)
Undoubtedly, Smoking is dangerous for the health. Few individuals believes it cause chronic illnesses and it should be banned. I mostly agree with this view as smoking cause health problem and it also affect the health of the non smokers which I will discuss in my forthcoming paragraphs.
To commence with, smoking will cause an adverse impact on the human health. This is how, in this current era, smokers with the excessive smoking leads to the damage of their lungs. For example, if the individuals are doing more smoking it would increase of chances of the lungs cancer which would results in the detrimental impact in the whole human body. As a results, smoking not only leads to the life threating diseases but also increase the chances of the death.
Moreover, smoking not only affects the person who smoke but also affect the surrounding people and the environment. This is why, as non smokers might also breath the harmful smoke from the smoking in the public places which also affect their health. For an instances, children who lived with the smokers and if they breath the same air it would damage their lungs and cause cancer to them. Thus, it should be banned in the public places so it would not affect to the non smokers.
In opposite to this, completely banning of the smoking may be difficult and unfair for the smokers. This is how, they are additive with the smoking and it might take a time to overcome from this habit. For example, instead of banned, legal authority should imposed high taxes, made restricted to the certain public places, etc. which helps to prevents others from the diseases. As a result, smoking should be reduce without completed banned on it.
In conclusion, smoking is extremely harmful to smokers and others. I mostly agree with making smoking illegal, but government should introduce strict restrictions and support smokers to quitter the smoking instead of banned immediately.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout, although the argument is somewhat contradictory. You argue for a ban in the introduction and body paragraphs, but then suggest in the conclusion that a total ban might be 'unfair' and propose alternatives instead. While you cover all parts of the task, the development of ideas is slightly repetitive, particularly regarding the health impacts of smoking. To improve, ensure your position remains consistent and provide more nuanced examples, such as specific government policies or economic impacts, rather than repeating the general idea that smoking causes cancer.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. You use cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusion' to signal the progression of your argument. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly unnatural, such as 'This is how' or 'This is why', which do not always logically connect the preceding sentence to the following explanation. The referencing is occasionally unclear, and the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to create a more sophisticated, cohesive structure.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your ideas clearly. You use some relevant topic-specific terms like 'chronic illnesses', 'detrimental impact', and 'life threatening diseases'. However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'additive with the smoking' (should be 'addicted to smoking') and 'quitter the smoking' (should be 'quit smoking'). To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing. Expanding your range to include more academic or formal synonyms would also be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow of reading. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('Few individuals believes', 'smoking cause health problem'), article usage ('the lungs cancer'), and incorrect verb forms ('smoking should be reduce', 'instead of banned'). While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and consistent verb tense usage would significantly improve your score.
