Student answer (Band 6.0)
Smoking is injurious to health. In this modern era, people become chain smoker by following some or the other things. The government and individual needs to take a strict action against chronic smoker and ban illegal business of selling cigarette. I am totally agree with the given statement, and will explain with example to prove.
To begin with, there are two types of smokers, one is an active and another is a passive. An active smoker is a person who smoke itself and a passive smoker are the individual surrounded by the person who is smoking in public place. There are plethora of causes which leads to a serious illness just because of smoking. Firstly, smoking for prolong period of time can cause lung cancer mainly. Without lung person is unable to breath and it can restrict airway.
Secondly, there are secondary causes which is quiet less harmful to human body but it cannot be neglected if an individual is diagnosed with tuberculosis or asthma. Sometime cancer is contagious if the infection spread all over the body, it is harmful to the family member or the people surrounded by an individual. Having few packs per day continuously for more than 7-8 years can lead to lung cancer.
To prevent cases of lung cancer among society, together, the government and an individual should take an action against smoking. On one hand, the government can increase taxes and prices of the cigarette box , so it can not be affordable by normal people. Moreover, if some is caught by smoking in public places will get fine as per the rules and regulations of the government. Individually, a person can consult a psychologist if were not able to breakdown the chain since long after trying. Last but not the least, awareness camp should be organize to educate people of society.
To conclude, strict action and measure need to taken by the government and an individual to stop smoking chain at the world level. It will not happen overnight but a small improvement in a lifestyle can save life.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of banning smoking. The ideas are relevant, such as the distinction between active and passive smoking and the role of government intervention. However, the development is somewhat uneven. The medical claims, such as 'cancer is contagious if the infection spread all over the body,' are factually inaccurate and weaken the logical support for the argument. While the position is clear throughout, the explanation of why smoking should be illegal could be more nuanced, focusing more on public health policy rather than just the health effects of smoking.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin with,' 'Secondly,' and 'To conclude,' which help guide the reader. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'one is an active and another is a passive.' Additionally, some transitions between sentences are abrupt, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly in the second paragraph where the connection between smoking and tuberculosis is not well-explained. Overall, the progression of ideas is coherent, but the flow could be smoother.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and sophistication. There are several instances of incorrect word choice or collocation, such as 'chain smoker' instead of 'chain smoker' (plural), 'smoke itself' instead of 'smokes,' and 'breakdown the chain' instead of 'break the habit.' Phrases like 'plethora of causes' are used, but the surrounding context often lacks the necessary academic tone. While the student attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary, the frequent errors in word formation and collocation limit the score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('government and individual needs'), article usage ('the government and an individual'), and pluralization ('some is caught by smoking'). There are also errors in tense and word form, such as 'awareness camp should be organize' instead of 'organized.' While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band score.
