Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have clearly stated your position in the introduction and maintained it throughout the essay. You address the prompt by arguing for a ban on tobacco. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat uneven. For example, the paragraph regarding government responsibility is a bit vague and repetitive, and the mention of UNICEF statistics lacks a clear connection to the argument for illegality. To improve, ensure that each supporting point directly reinforces your main thesis with more logical depth. While you cover all parts of the task, the supporting arguments could be more nuanced to reach a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use some cohesive devices like 'In addition', 'On the other hand', and 'To conclude'. However, some transitions feel mechanical or slightly unnatural, such as 'There is no wonder that' or 'And to make sure'. Additionally, some sentences are disjointed, particularly in the third paragraph where the flow between the government's role and the mention of medicine is abrupt. Improving the variety and precision of your linking words will help create a smoother, more professional progression of ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'injurious', 'widespread', and 'comprehensive'. However, there are instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'business of making any kind of cigarette' instead of 'tobacco industry', and 'it contract shouldn’t allow to go any private company'. These inaccuracies occasionally hinder the precision of your argument. To achieve a higher score, focus on using more natural collocations and precise terminology related to public policy and health, rather than relying on general descriptions.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that affect the clarity of your writing. Examples include 'it is clearly affecting people’s health later in their life causing cancer', 'there is no way it should not be possible to even make illegally produced', and 'whoever is or making tobacco products'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces before commas and periods. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and sentence construction to improve accuracy.
