Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is widely recognized that any kind of smoke is injurious to health which is considered to be the main cause of dangerous illness to humankind. I firmly agree with the notion that the business of making any kind of cigarette should be completely banned and strict regulations should be implemented.

On the one hand, there is no wonder that using tobacco for pleasure is widespread across the world. And it is clearly affecting people’s health later in their life causing cancer and other deadly diseases. In addition, UNICEF has conducted nationwide surveys in the United States of America where they found out that 3 out of 10 people are struggling with illnesses which is roughly 30% of the population of the United States of America. Although with the modern era technology, doctors these days have found a way to fight against cancer but they are not being successful. Thus It should be avoided as much as possible.

On the other hand, there is no way it should not be possible to even make illegally produced. And to make sure the government holds the key to secure their people. For instance, the government should take full responsibility for any kind of tobacco. Although some of tobacco is still being used to make medicine but the production rights shouldn’t allow to go to private company. Furthermore, it is a necessity to implement strict guidelines to whoever is or making tobacco products by implementing high fines for rest of their life.

To conclude, people indeed need to spread awareness to prevent smoking in society as well as , the government should organize a comprehensive plan to ensure hold they will take full responsibility that production is not being sold illegally.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have clearly stated your position in the introduction and maintained it throughout the essay. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat inconsistent. While you provide a reason for the health risks, the argument regarding the government's role in production is underdeveloped and slightly confusing. For example, the claim that 'the government should take full responsibility for any kind of tobacco' is not fully explained in terms of how this would function or why it is a viable alternative to a total ban. To improve, ensure that each paragraph focuses on a single, well-supported main idea that directly addresses the prompt's requirement to discuss the extent of your agreement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and you use basic cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand,' 'On the other hand,' and 'To conclude' to signal the structure. However, some transitions are mechanical or awkward, such as 'there is no way it should not be possible to even make illegally produced.' Additionally, some sentences lack clear logical flow, making it difficult for the reader to follow your reasoning. Improving the use of cohesive devices to link ideas within paragraphs, rather than just starting them, would help the flow of your writing significantly.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You have an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your meaning, using terms like 'injurious,' 'nationwide surveys,' and 'comprehensive plan.' However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and awkward phrasing, such as 'the business of making any kind of cigarette' and 'the production rights shouldn’t allow to go to private company.' These errors occasionally make the text feel unnatural. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing. Expanding your vocabulary to include more academic or topic-specific terminology would also be beneficial.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with article usage, subject-verb agreement, and sentence construction. For example, 'there is no way it should not be possible to even make illegally produced' is grammatically unclear. Additionally, punctuation errors, such as the space before the comma in 'as well as , the government,' detract from the overall quality. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and ensuring that your complex sentences are constructed correctly to avoid confusion.
