Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is argued that smoking is injurious to health and may lead to serious health ailment. For the betterment it should be banned. I personally strongly agree with this notion. In this essay, I am going to discuss about the mentioned viewpoint.
In the first place, one major reason to banned the smoking products such as cigarettes is to promote healthy lifestyle. To illustrate it, many people do smoking on a daily bases and at the end they compromise with their health and fitness. However, one can achieve certain level of internal and external body fitness if they quit cigarettes. For instance, in India, government are taking major initiative to reduce the number of smoker by organizing awareness campaigns and by showing advertisement of its side effects on cinemas before the movie starts. As an outcome, consumers would think twice before smoking and think about their body health.
Furthermore, another considerable reason for making cigarettes and other related products illegal is to build the nation free from Cancer. As everyone knows, smoking and alcohol are the primary factors to cause Cancer. By implementing strict rules and regulations of banning cigarettes, country could achieve the goal of Cancer Free Nation. For illustration, India has applied a rule of closing the manufacturing companies of smoking products. As a result, there would be no cigarettes and no Cancer in the country in the future.
To summarize the above narratives, I strongly agree with the idea of making smoking illegal in order to control the life threatening diseases such as Cancer and to promote healthy lifestyle.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of banning smoking. The ideas are relevant, focusing on health benefits and the goal of a cancer-free society. However, the development is somewhat simplistic. The argument that banning manufacturing would lead to 'no cigarettes and no Cancer' is an over-generalization and lacks a nuanced discussion of the practical challenges of such a policy (e.g., black markets or personal freedom). While the position is consistent, the supporting arguments could be more sophisticated and better explored to reach a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, each with a central theme. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'In the first place,' 'Furthermore,' and 'To summarize,' which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel mechanical, and the logical flow within paragraphs is occasionally hindered by repetitive phrasing. For example, the link between government campaigns and the conclusion that consumers would 'think twice' is logical, but the connection between banning manufacturing and the total eradication of cancer is a logical leap that weakens the overall cohesion of the argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and variety required for higher bands. There are several instances of awkward collocations or word choices, such as 'serious health ailment' (should be 'ailments'), 'do smoking' (should be 'smoke'), and 'on a daily bases' (should be 'basis'). The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, relying on basic terms like 'good,' 'bad,' or 'major.' To improve, the student should focus on more precise academic collocations and avoid repetitive phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('government are taking,' 'smoking and alcohol are the primary factors to cause Cancer') and article usage errors ('the smoking products'). While the meaning is always clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. More attention to pluralization and verb forms would significantly improve the accuracy of the writing.
