Student answer (Band 6.0)
Smoking can bring devastating health conditions and it should be considered as unlawful act. I completely agree with the statement and this essay will discuss that how smoking is injurious to health and environment.
To begin with, smoking is a serious hazard to human health. As it can be seen that who smoke regularly they invite lot of health problems. It causes issues not only to the smoker but to their families as well because they all live together and breathe in the same air as it creates the worst possible conditions to live in.
Consequently, it grows the diseases like cancer, breathing problems as well as lung failures because it is not able to pump the pure blood to the body.
In addition to this, smoking is not only harmful for the humans but for the nature too. When number of people are smoking around the area, it worst air pollution . To take an example, specific areas of each country has higher number of smokers that inclines the bad pollutants in the air making it worst to breathe in. As a result, one who breathe in such air quality definitely would have worst health effects and declines their lifespan.
To sum up, it is an undeniable fact that smoking causes dangerous effect on human body and should be treated as illegal act. I firmly believe that regular smoking brings in cancer, impure blood due to lung failures and bad breathing. Moreover, it also causes worst effects on the environment by declining the quality of air and making it worst for the people to live in.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The essay addresses the prompt by taking a clear position that smoking should be illegal. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention health risks and environmental concerns, the arguments lack depth and specific evidence. For instance, the claim that smoking causes 'lung failures' because it cannot 'pump pure blood' is scientifically inaccurate and vague. To improve, focus on providing more logical, well-supported arguments rather than repeating the same points about health and air quality. The essay remains somewhat repetitive in its conclusion, which does not add new insights to the discussion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into clear paragraphs, and there is a logical progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'In addition to this', and 'To sum up' to signpost your points. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly unnatural. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the phrase 'as it can be seen that who smoke regularly', which lacks a clear subject. Improving the flow between sentences by using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that pronouns clearly refer to their antecedents would enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. You rely heavily on basic descriptors like 'worst' and 'bad', which are used repeatedly (e.g., 'worst possible conditions', 'worst air pollution', 'worst health effects'). There are also issues with collocation, such as 'invites lot of health problems' and 'inclines the bad pollutants'. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise academic vocabulary and collocations, such as 'exacerbates air pollution' or 'detrimental impact on health', rather than repeating simple adjectives.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'it grows the diseases' (incorrect verb choice), 'one who breathe' (subject-verb agreement error), and 'it is not able to pump the pure blood' (awkward phrasing). Punctuation is generally functional, but the sentence structure often feels repetitive. To improve, focus on mastering subject-verb agreement and using more varied sentence patterns, such as conditional or passive structures, while ensuring that your grammar remains accurate.
