Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have clearly addressed the prompt by taking a strong position in favor of banning smoking. You provide relevant reasons, such as health risks and the potential for government intervention through taxation and education. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat uneven. While you mention health impacts, the explanation of why a total ban is the most effective solution could be more deeply explored. You address all parts of the task, but some arguments, such as the role of film stars, are introduced briefly without sufficient elaboration. To reach a higher band, ensure that every point made is fully supported with clear reasoning or specific examples.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use a variety of cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'Furthermore', 'Moreover', and 'To recapitulate' to guide the reader through your arguments. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or are used with minor inaccuracies, such as 'Apart from it' or 'To decline the ratio'. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. The progression of ideas is generally clear, though the connection between the health risks mentioned in the second paragraph and the proposed solutions in the third could be smoother.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary, attempting to use more sophisticated terms like 'detrimental', 'alleviate', 'autonomy', and 'benevolence'. However, there are instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors that slightly hinder precision. For example, 'diminishing its usage' is not the most natural way to describe a ban, and 'lead in draining energy' is grammatically awkward. Phrases like 'pessimistic approaches in life' and 'detoxify themselves' are used in contexts that do not quite fit the intended meaning. While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your message, more attention to natural collocations would improve your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you successfully employ some complex sentences, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation. For instance, 'consumption of cigarettes which is causing' lacks an article, and 'if government impose' should be 'if the government imposes'. There are also issues with preposition usage and article omission throughout the text (e.g., 'for better future prospects of the nation'). While these errors do not impede overall communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher band score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage will significantly enhance your accuracy.
