Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of banning smoking. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention health issues and government intervention, the arguments lack depth. For instance, you suggest 'free supplements' and 'door to door' visits, which are somewhat impractical or tangential to the core argument of making smoking illegal. To reach a higher band, you should focus on the socio-economic or public health arguments for a ban, such as the burden on healthcare systems or the protection of non-smokers, and provide more logical, well-reasoned support for these points.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear introduction and conclusion. You use some cohesive devices like 'To commence with', 'Moreover', and 'Furthermore' to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel forced. Additionally, the referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the sentence 'They should continue provide them strict supervision', where the pronoun 'them' lacks a clear antecedent. Improving the variety of cohesive devices and ensuring that sentences flow more naturally into one another would improve the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it is somewhat repetitive and lacks precision. You use basic terms like 'vital issue', 'strict actions', and 'health issues' multiple times. There are also some awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'smoking cigar' (instead of 'smoking cigarettes') and 'de-addictive center' (instead of 'rehabilitation center'). To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to public health and policy, and pay closer attention to standard collocations to ensure your writing sounds more natural and precise.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'it cause' instead of 'it causes'), missing articles, and incorrect verb forms (e.g., 'should be take initiative' instead of 'should take initiative'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces before commas and periods. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for small errors would be highly beneficial.
