Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position, but the development of ideas is limited and repetitive. While you mention health risks and the presence of chemicals, the arguments lack depth and fail to explore the broader implications of banning smoking (e.g., economic impact or personal freedom). Furthermore, the essay is slightly under the 250-word minimum requirement, which negatively impacts the overall task completion. To improve, ensure you provide more detailed explanations and examples for each point, and double-check that your word count meets the minimum threshold to avoid a penalty.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical flow is often hindered by repetitive phrasing and awkward transitions. While you use some cohesive devices like 'Moving further' and 'Furthermore', they are sometimes used incorrectly or feel mechanical. The progression of ideas within paragraphs is weak, as the same points about health and chemicals are restated rather than built upon. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph introduces a distinct, well-supported idea that logically follows the previous one.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive, relying on basic terms like 'good', 'bad', and 'things'. There are frequent errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'effecting' instead of 'affecting', 'breath' instead of 'breathe', and 'haramfull' instead of 'harmful'. These errors occasionally make the text difficult to follow. To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary related to health and public policy, and pay closer attention to word forms (e.g., noun vs. verb usage).

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures, and there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'its become a trend'), incorrect verb forms (e.g., 'cigarettes are make of'), and punctuation errors. These errors are persistent and sometimes impede the clarity of your message. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically the correct use of articles, verb tenses, and the distinction between 'effect' and 'affect'. Increasing the variety of complex sentence structures would also help raise your score.
