Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of banning smoking. However, the development of ideas is inconsistent. While the health and social impacts are mentioned, the arguments are somewhat repetitive and lack depth. The counter-argument regarding the military is underdeveloped and lacks a logical connection to the main thesis, making the overall argument feel disjointed. To improve, you should focus on providing more specific, well-reasoned evidence for each point rather than listing general ideas. Ensure that every paragraph directly supports your central position to maintain a stronger focus throughout the essay.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical flow between and within them is often weak. The use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes inaccurate, such as the repetitive use of 'also' and 'that'. Referencing is frequently unclear, for example, 'that makes many disease' or 'there are several reason to do that smoking'. The transition between the main arguments and the counter-argument is abrupt, which hinders the overall progression of ideas. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that pronouns clearly refer to their antecedents would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive, which restricts the ability to convey complex ideas. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'band this products' (ban these products) and 'human can survive without this thinks' (things). Some terms are used incorrectly, such as 'in the would' (in the world) and 'teenager copy that'. While the meaning is generally understandable, the lack of precision and the repeated errors in basic vocabulary usage prevent a higher score. Expanding your range of vocabulary and focusing on correct word forms and collocations will help you express your points more effectively.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures, and there are frequent errors in grammar, punctuation, and syntax. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'smoking not effect'), article usage (e.g., 'in the most societies'), and sentence fragments or run-on sentences. The misuse of capitalization and punctuation, such as starting sentences with lowercase letters, is also prevalent. While the errors do not always prevent communication, they are frequent enough to cause difficulty for the reader. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, including correct verb tenses and pluralization, before attempting more complex structures.
